Have been looking for a PAL capable Player - this one came along at the right price advertised as a spares or repair item... problem with it - 'Tray not Ejecting'. Alas however once arrived it was found on turning on the players LED Info Display is not lighting up at all. Hoping to play my 30 odd PAL discs (and any other subsequent PAL Discs) however since realised this particular NTSC/PAL Pioneer player is missing the ability to play older Analogue Only PAL Discs...so its a PAL player but only for Digital Discs. Asking Anyone had this similar issue with the LED Info Display not lighting up on their Pioneer Player ? |

Tray could be belt replacement. Display could be capacitors or even the ribbon cable coming out or needing replacement. Remember parts are no longer available for LD players, you can get stuff like belts but cables may be an issue. These are only guesses and I'm no tech or expert in repairs. |

Yes... loading belt very likely needs replacing if it’s still the original. Do you hear a squealing noise when hitting eject? That is usually the first sign of belt issues. Also, in addition to caps or loose wiring, check for cold solder joints on the display board as well. My CLD-3030 had its display pulsating for awhile until I resoldered the connections on the FL display. |

Thankyou guys! - I have made progress... Tray now working - indeed the belt ! Relatively easy fix! Player now works - LED Display is still out....will look harder at that later - couldn't see bad solder or obvious ribbon issues.. but will remove Display circuit board for full inspection...hoping I don't mess something up of course! Been Looking for a Service Manual and have found one! have sent copy to manual@lddb.com |

Personally I would not bother with the display if the player is working or if you want to sell this. |

Yes I see what you mean - I'm now able to use the player reasonably well without it ..as we do get confirmation for most actions with the on screen display. ...though after looking at the Service Manual - I will check voltages are present for the Info display - if only because Im curious and want to learn ....was thinking this was an LED display..its instead a 'Fluorescent Tube Display'...the tube could be simply broken as I understand they do die with age...if correct voltages present then very likey it is 'defunct'.....if no voltages present then we have a Power supply issue and I will look into fixing that. |

Checked and found -30Volts is missing, voltage stops at R201. What Resistance do you think this Resistor could be ? Will change R201 and also Capacitor C205 capacitor 100uF 50V D205 is ok. So hoping this would fix the problem...however you never know...need to be sure of the resistance of that open circuit R201.

I think you might be having a corrosion issue instead of a bad resistor. I just fixed a vintage Denon, DP-72L, turntable that had no power to drive the platter and after going over it I found several areas on the motor drive area that had that same green oxidation on your resistor. If you turn the board over, I'm certain that resistor may not be making continuity w/ the circuit board. If that is the case, you need to desolder the resistor and see about taking some sandpaper to sand off the oxidation until bare metal shines through again. Afterwards, try to solder it back into the board but if the solder doesn't stick to the PCB you will need to wire up a jumper to where ever the trace leads back to. Let us know what you find. |

Thanks Ldfan Yeah the resistor is def 'open' - ..perhaps the corrosion played a part in the demise of the resistor. I can see plenty of 'green' across other components....will be whipping the circuit board out shortly and investigating further. Will report back soon. |

We have a result ! Replaced Resistor and Cap - used a solid jumper wire to bypass corroded trace. Hopefully will keep working! Player fully working ! - Slightly less noise wrt to the picture compared to what my D770 can do - however not quite as detailed.

Good job finding the issue. Nice to have a fully working player again. I’m sure the display will keep going fine.
