CLD-3030 and its slightly nicer Japanese revision CLD-99S need to be handled with care. I have seen these issues: The black plastic holder of the threaded brass rod that is responsible for moving the pickup will break. Attachment:

A black plastic knob that tilts the pickup will break. Attachment:

The white plastic gears on the tray roller will break. Attachment:

The worst of all is the holder for the threaded brass rod. So far my solution is to use some thicker-gauge wire to bind it to the metal piece that runs adjacent to it, but someone here might have a better idea.

glad i tore down and rebuilt my own 3030 when i did. clearly, the original grease congeals with age so badly that it binds up and shatters tray gearwork.
that LD PICKUP ASSY. rail paul indeed broke on my 3030's original ASSY. when i tried to dissemble it once. it is truly brittle.
as it went, it was all good anyway, as was suspecting the pickup of age anyway, and i bought a 1030, transplanting it's identical LD PICKUP ASSY. to my freshly-refitted 3030 chassis, resulting in the generally healthy, reliable player i enjoy to this day.
all told, the 99S/3030 family's highly modular internal design greatly simplifies and streamlines service, a great benefit indeed, especially for a generally rank amateur such as myself...

cplusplus, Thanks for the informative photos above. I was lucky in that all the broken things are intact on my CLD-3030. I'm running into a different type of issue and wanted to see what everyone thought.
Originally when I opened the unit up, the motor for the tilt gear was running constantly while spinning the top gear only, the bottom gear and holder for the tilt mechanism weren't engaging. I got the black tilt pin stuck back in.
Now, when I fire up the machine, all is well for about 58 seconds into a movie, then I hear that click click click sound and it won't go away until I rewind back to before 58 seconds. One other thing to note, prior to fixing the tilt motor/knob, I could not get the player to recognize CDs. Now, it recognizes and plays them fine.
Should I adjust tilt to make the click sound go away? I disassembled the unit a few times, moving the tilt knob to different positions, but it always results in the click sound. Is Tilt adjustment accessed through the bottom of the player?
Thanks to anyone that can help!
