LD player was working fine before it was shipped to me. It wouldn't eject, and it made not even the slightest noise or vibration when powering on and trying to eject, so I popped the top. The only way I can get it to eject is by sliding the laser back a few inches, then powering on. It works from that point on until I power it off. Then it goes back to the way it was. The unit has a new belt on it, supposedly.

I put in a LD to see if it even worked, using the method I just mentioned, and it seemed to work fine. Then I hit the Side B button, just to be met with an ongoing horrid mechanical sound and I have to unplug it to get it to stop.

If these aren't too bad of problems to fix, I'd rather get my hands dirty than to just chunk it.

I do know these are easier to fix players.
It could be a belt issue, search it up.
Side B sounds like a grip ring slipping issue, search it up.

And I doubt you can fix this and flip it, you just don't have the tech knowledge if there is something else wrong, why chuck it????

I want to fix it and keep it, not flip it. I'll look into those things, thanks.

Good deal, see if they are close to what you are experiencing and then work from there or post your next issues.
The two I mentioned are easy but you need parts.

About the first issue, the tray problem, I'm not sure a belt is the issue. I imagine I'd hear at least a little bit of noise where the player would try to get started on the eject sequence. It doesn't though, and sliding the laser carriage back is the only way I can get it to eject.

The belt looks fine and it moves the tray in/out when I spin the plastic. It's supposedly a new belt too.

I'll worry about the grinding noise when switching sides after I tackle this first issue.

Check that the blue switch in the turn mechanism is correctly set: [CLD-D704] Disc stuck in player
