Having performed a full calibration I put everything back together and found there is no digital audio output from the player. The only sound coming out is when audio is set to analogue and on the left channel only. I've seen in the LD-S2 service manual (page 93) that you can damage the DACB if it's not removed properly and was wondering if this is the case with the X0. I performed the lineup with the DACB still connected to the player.

Anyone have experience with this? Either on an X0 or S2?

Did you reconnect the the cable going from the servo board to the Digital board? Made the mistake of a S2 before. Also, if it is a LD with AC-3 RF encoded then for analog all you will get is left audio.

Hey Kurtis,

Yes I have connected the CN10 cable. I had a doner unit that I was using for parts and came accross this problem a couple of days ago. The solution was to change the DACB board and suddenly I had digital output from the phonos. Unfortunately this has now happened on this good replacement board.

Is there a chance I could have damaged both boards when removing them due to a surge in the capacitors as outlined in the S2 manual?

There are a couple in-line (IC) fuses on the audio board, check them.

Thanks. I'll check the IC fuses.

As for calibration it's a pretty involved process. You need an oscilloscope, test disc and other tools. Have a look at the service manual available on the forums. If you have a working unit I wouldn't go any where near attempting a lineup as you can cause more damage. I was forced to do a mechanical calibration as my unit would not play muse discs. It now plays them fine but unfortunately the DACB board is playing up.

Oh, I see. So you used the LD-S2 service manual ?

A combination of S2 and X0 manuals. Slight differences in the lineup methods of each but overall very similar.

And you were able to read the X0 manual even though it is in Japanese ? That is very cool.

i guess those 90's-era PIONEER engineers had a fixation with in-line, PCB-mounted PICO type fuses.

my 1997/2000 PIO ELITE DV-09 DVDP has several of these in it's PSU PCB.
one day, the player just flicked off, and wouldn't power up again.

i went online for help, and a tech informed me of the presence of said fuses,
and that one or more of them eventually blowing was common occurrence with this DVDP model.

i'd never diagnosed/repaired PCB mount electronics before, so the fellow stepped me through it,
after ordering the needed replacement fuses online.

one inexpensive VOM meter and ten minutes of my time later, the player was back in action.

this sort of service work is stupidly simple to perform, once you know exactly what to use and how to use it...

Checked the ICP's and they are blown. I'll replace them and hopefully that should fix it. Thanks Kurtis.

Luckily the older tech of laserdisc players means it's feasible to replace these parts. Before the more fiddly surface mounted smaller components came into play.
