Post subject:  [HLD-X9] U1 error

I bought an X9 on ebay and it seems to start having the grip ring issue las described here: U1 error on HLD-X9. Help!

BUT it also makes a loud banging noise when you press stop or the disc has come to and end. Is that normal for the X9? Seems like the laser pickup or the whole mechanism slams against something when it stops. Otherwise it is a dream, the picture quality is absolutely awesome!

how did you receive this player?
player was double boxed and well packed with protective styrofoam suspports?

did you buy this player from a japanese seller on US eBay?
there are 7 players for sale on ebay right now.

I'd like to buy one but I'm scared if it breaks in transit as it's very heavy and not very smooth to handle such bulky box

I did NOT buy the player from Japan or any other place outside Europe and it was super well protected. Almost impossible that it got damaged during shipping. The grip ring issue is no big deal, what worries me more is the banging noise it makes. I'm in contact with the seller, he says it has always made these loud banging noises. I have no experience with these units therefore I would like to know if this is normal or not. When it changes sides it takes a long time compared to a DVL909/919 but that seems to be normal as I have found out on youtube. It would be really helpful if another X9 owner could reply. Thanks.

X9 is one of the most silent laserdisc player I have ever heard - got about twenty until now, so I know it is silent...

Hope you can find a way to solve the problem!

Not sure if the x9 is set up this way but mos pioneer players have a rubber square that the laser assembly comes down to rest when you turn it off or hit stop. If that glue dried up and it moved for some reason the assembly will slam to the bottom of the deck. Check that out.

The grip ring is Pioneer part # DEB1169. I'd also order a SCQ3.6 load belt, this is the generic part number.

As for the bang sound I would take the top off and watch it. From your description I could not guess what that is. You could always make a video.

Yeah how about making a video/or even auido recording of the noises.
I -and probably other users- could compare it with the noises their X9 makes.
At least we could find out if its normal or not, that way. :)

grip ring seal, is this a common issue on all Pioneer players or is it only problematic on X9 player?

how do you replace this rubber seal?
scraping off old seal, clean with alcohol from old glue residue?
new seal ring is it self adhesive or do I have to apply new glue around the rubber strip?

Pioneer grip ring part # DEB1169, does it fit most players, like DVL909 and CLD-R7G?

O.k., I've done a video with the mobile phone. Quality therefore is not the best. If you look at it closely, you will even notice the tray vibrating from the knock inside the player:

Is that normal for the X9?

i cudd watch it now thanks, there is a loud thump something is hitting inside.
did this thump happen right away after you opened the delivery box?
box might got dropped in transit?

did you contact seller asking if seller had the same issue with the thump noise?

do you have an allen key to unscrew the top plate?

Seller said that player has always made that noise and he thought it was normal..... The player was sent REALLY well protected, I doubt anything happened during transport.

well it's a good thing seller was a stand up guy being honest about loud noise.

how was player packed?
did it come double boxed, did seller use bubble wrapping, styrofoam supports, packing peanuts as filler material?
what material was used for best packing?

corners on shipping box, were they undamaged?

Did you open it up and check the rubber bumper that the assembly comes down to rest on when stop is pressed?

No, not yet, it is sealed.

This is the best picture i could find.

If you look at the bottom plate in the middle (copper) color. You will see in the upper left hand corner a black rubber rectangle. That is where the laser assembly comes to rest when you hit stop or turn off the machine. If that bumper is gone moved or deteriorated the assembly will slam to the bottom of the tray. That would be my first thing to check.

It was JPY 350,000 or about US$3,500 at that time.

US$3,500 in 1996 would be about $5,445 in 2016, adjusted for inflation.

thanks for this info Julien
now I understand why these players are difficult to sell on Fleabay, sellers asking 50% of full price.
price begins from $1800 for cheapest player

there is a beat up player on auction on Fleabay
