Some people already knows my player died last week.
I sended it to pioneer. They said that laser power is down. Then they can't do anything.
I decided to keep my player, and buy a new pick up when I will have money (maybe next year).
I am just a little bit curious, because my player doesn't display any error number. The LD just don't play. No special sound or anything.
I know Pioneer is professionnal, but my irrational way of thinking thought of other scenarios... like, they could have too much work with most recent machine, then maybe they didn't check that much. Just it doesn't read the disc then it should be the pick up :).
If I decide to buy a new pick up (it's expensive ! ) I should maybe more sure about the problem... Anyone can give me any advice ? Or should I have 100% trust to Pioneer repair center ?

How much is the pick up? And where would you find it anyway?

I heard that I could find it for around 900 $ on ebay sometimes.

I just notice : Is it normal that my player doesn't displayer any error code ?

There was a guy in germany who had one for sale for $1500 a couple years ago. Since then I haven't seen any on ebay.

There was a guy here who replaced the diode in the laser himself using a common found diode. He said he had it working. Search the forum, this was in the last two years maybe 3. This would cost a few bucks only if you can figure it out.

The wavelength of 670nm is visibile red, so :
1) follow chapter 6 of service manual / or less drastic (if possible) open the top cover and make your room completely dark)
2) load a 8" LD single (must be the thin one !)
3) press play
4) check if the discs spins up -> tilt sensor should take care of this
5) if the disc spin's up -> check if you can see the red light from the laser, this should be clearly visible through the thin LD single

If not than you should check the 2 voltages on leading from PBA through flatcable to laser unit (See service manual page 22)

Other option is to activate the test mode

thank you for your replies !
But he didn't post any explanation about how he succeed....
I am not specialist in soldering or electronic things... I can do easy solder, between 2 cables, or assembly PC parts... But that's all.
Without any tutorial, that's hard, isn't it ?

Did you try messaging that guy for details?

I doubt you need any soldering. Even if you do, it shouldn't be too hard. At this point you can't make it any worse anyway. I would give my best and try swapping diodes. The entire pick up is very expensive that is if you can find one.

ok, what I will do is :
- contact the guy for details.
- gather informations
- take some electronic base lesson during 6 months (I need more skills, for other projects also)
- gather money during 6 month, then I can buy a new pick up if I fail.
- I will try to post about all my process and try to share what I will learn about repairing HLD-X0 ;)
If you have some other advice, it would be good to share also !

Get a very low wattage soldering iron so you don't melt anything.
Good luck with it, nothing to lose at this point.

Other option would be to gather all info on how to repair and sell as a project to recoup some money, but I would risk the repair.

Just remember the X0 uses a Red laser, different from the normal LD and CD players
