So I just got an X9 shipped from Japan, arrived with the laser moving forward and banging into spindle with the front display blinking on and off. Upon opening I found a piece of plastic broken off of the limit switch on the laser, I assume that is the issue? The laser keeps moving forward and never hits the limit? Would this also explain the front display blinking on and off? Can I just swap the switch from another player or can I buy off the shelf somewhere? I have this 99 one but that mechanism is sitting here because it was giving me similar issues so not sure if I can test that switch??

The front display continues to blink on and off as this is happening. Edit - if I hit the switch with a screwdriver the laser backs up so it must be working? I removed the tray and played around with the gears, do I need to set the gear timing or something? https://youtu.be/dk7HHjTtt-I

how did you receive this player from japan? did seller doppel box the X9 properly also using proper protective materials?
maybe the best way to pack a player for safe transport is to use a tall outer box with cut out side grab handles. wheel shops selling sporty rims have these boxes recycled after they install rims to cars in tire shops.
pack player with shock absorbing material inside the 1st box, then fill outer delivery box with more shock absorbing material, then place internal box with player floating ontop of the packing materials acting like a shock absorber. wedge internal box around on all corners making it sit tight. on outer box there should be adhesive labels for safe transportation: FRAGILE - HANDLE WITH CARE - DO NOT DROP
the best way is to ship a heavy player in safe box placed on a custom sized wooden pallat. shipping will be costly.

The only affect is the tray could sag a little but the mechanism pick the LD up so it not an issue. The S2/X9 tray is more brittle than the tray used in the CLD-99/79/D704/D703 and at some point the channel on the bottom that guides the plate to signal the processor the tray position will break and then the tray will be stuck in the unit. The S2/X9 tray is no longer available either. It is really best to get one of the black colored trays which the channel is not as brittle but it has to be modified by breaking out the 3" disc surface, then you put your X9 front on the tray so it still looks like an X9 with the tray closed. BTW: the tab at the back breaks off on the black colored trays too. You can Email me about this if you want.

Thanks Kurtis, the x9 tray actually lost some teeth also but I have a local buddy with a spare 503 I'm picking up tomorrow. Believe it or not X9 is all fixed, remote still doesn't work but I have it daisy chained to another player using the rear control points as a workaround. Best part is I did it myself without having to drive across the country .

On the issue with the switch... Was it the plastic piece that actuates the switch, or the switch itself? The plastic piece - I did a video if anyone is interested - https://youtu.be/UAmqca1l970
