Post subject:  [DVL-919E] I have audio but no video?

Hi, hopefully someone can advise....

I have just obtained a Pioneer DVL-919E machine.

It plays DVD's fine through both scart lead and component.

However it only plays the audio when playing a LD, no video, just a black screen.

I am sure it's something to do with output of the analogue video but can't work out how to sort it?

Any advice appreciated!

Nick

LD won't go through component it must be composite or S-video.
is it variable, a switch for PAL but you have it on NTSC?

Hi, thanks for replying.

On back of machine there is PAL/NTSC/AUTO option- it is set to AUTO.

So, do you think I need a composite cable?
My tv doesn't appear to have an S-Video port

Thanks

To clarify - I am using the red, yellow and white cable. I get audio but no video

Try whatever your TV is, no auto.
Its obviously not working.

Also are we sure the LD portion on this is pal/ntsc?

I don't know this can be bad. I had a Pioneer CLD-150K which probably got damaged in the shipping. And it only played audio but wouldn't play the video, no matter whether it was PAL or NTSC and also no matter what I used to plug it to TV. It also couldn't play audio cd's. So try to see if your player can play cd's because if it can't, that means this is serious.

Also try to skip chapters with an LD on. My CLD 150K would take forever when I tried to skip to a different chapter. (like 40 secs to a minute) If you get these, then this unfortunately means you got a very bad and serious problem.

Just tried an audio CD worked fine.

Tried a LD I know has chapters (not all of them do) and yeah it took about 15-20 seconds to go to next chapter. Again, I have audio but no video, just black screen.

Any thoughts (or anyone else) on what the issue might be??

You have to go into the menu settings in the player and switch off component video from what I recall and then hook up the player via composite connection (or maybe Scart has that built in).

Pioneer DVL-919E models have no Component outputs, only 2 SCARTs.

For LDs you need to use Composite, S-Video or maybe disable Component on SCART (as mentioned above).

You can find the manuals here: https://manuals.lddb.com/LD_Players/Pioneer/DVL/DVL-919E/
