Does anyone know why sometimes my LD player doesn't auto flip to side b? when this does happen I cannot even press the b side button on the player or the remote, I have to stop the movie and eject it and it starts to work. any suggestions would help.

In many cases, you need a new loading belt. Are you hearing a squealing sound as the laser is about to flip?

If you have never replaced it before, it's most likely due for a new one. The loading belt essentially performs three jobs; moving the tray in & out, raising and lowering the transport, and adjusting tilt. The tilt from my experience is usually the main issue when Side B refuses to play as the turn mechanism jams up during the exchange because the tilt of the mechanism is not in the correct position it needs to be due to the belt slipping.

The part number for a belt is VEB-1184....

The DVL-90 and DVL-700 have the same type grip ring as in the CLD-D704 and related models. Go here
https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R ... 7&_sacat=0
and buy a VEB1237 and it will fit on your DVL-700.

I was thinking grip ring as well but wanted to get reply first to confirm the squeal sound.

While on the topic, what’s your opinion of a slightly weaker magnet on the clamper causing similar issues on an Alpha Turn model? I’m still having sporadic issue of my ProScan PSLD43 occasionally not engaging Side B because it appears to not be able to spin up fast enough after braking to read the leader.

I can tell it's not gonna auto flip cause even when I press the a/b button on the controller it's does nothing almost like I didn't press it. same thing when I press the button on the console itself it doesn't engage like I did press it at all.

Sounds like classic grip ring slipping.

I think the combination of the grip ring which ages loosing any ripping capability along with the newer clamp method causes the issue. For example the DVL-700 and DVL-909 have the same clamping design but the 909 uses the same white painted surface on the spindle motor as the CLD-D504/604/505/605/406/606/59 and does not have the slipping issue where the 700 uses the dark stick on rubber pad and has the slipping issue.

As Kurtis stated, maybe you don't need to replace your belt but need a new grip ring instead.

However, if you still want to replace the belt, you simply need to remove the cover & pop the tray out, unplug the power, remove the tray by releasing the locking tabs, and the belt is located on the left front of the player for easy access.

In any case, Kurtis did comment about it here....

Also, I agree with Kurtis regarding the video that is posted on this topic; don't need to remove the front panel of the player to access the belt.

Update
So I changed the grip ring today and run a couple of tests, so far it's working great! Thanks again for the advice!
