I just recently purchased a DVL-919 about a month ago, and I noticed on the back of the model, there was a (1) to the right of the model number. When I added the model to my hardware collection, I saw that the (1) 'variant?' had its own separate listing compared to the standard Pioneer DVL-919. When I looked at the listings for both devices, I saw that they were exactly the same aside from the Pioneer DVL-919 (1) version being released at a later time. Can anyone explain what separates the two aside from the little number? I'm trying to figure out what makes the extra number so special as to necessitate a separate listing.

Hardware fix or revision of the motherboard?

SM of the (1) mentions:

Quote:
DVL-919 has two models which specifications are different. Each distinction will be confirmed with the indication of the rear cover and the packing case.

We have 2 Service Manuals for 919 (RR2054 and RR2089) as well as the 919 (1) differences (RR2194).

https://manuals.lddb.com/LD_Players/Pioneer/DVL/DVL-919/

=> DVD section was upgraded from VWS1377 to VWS1397 + rear panel updated with (1)

Audio-Video chip in charge of DVD was upgraded from MB68371C to MB86373.

MPEG2 DECODER LSI for DVD MB86373 PRODUCT SPECIFICATIONS EDITION 1.1 AUGUST 24, 1999 FUJITSU LIMITED

No impact for the LD section. Maybe an update to fix the infamous chroma-bug?

That makes sense, DVD side bug fixes. That player was in production for a long time during which advances in DVD for sure took place.

Yes, the difference was mainly the DVDM board. But you have to be careful if you are trying to 'rebuild' players. The DVDM board and the FLKB boards from the (1) variant are not interchangeable with their original edition counterparts. Mixing them up will generally report an error on the display at power on.

I'll add a note to all the DVL-919 (1) to explain the difference.
