Rather late reply, but here's something I wrote in a previous post that may help:
Quote:
For what it's worth, I did find out how to slide out the big tray on a powerless machine, which I'll share here for posterity...

Wind in the small tray using your finger on the white pulley with the belt around it, then keep on winding.

Very slowly this will start raising up the whole laser assembly. Keep going and when this is fully raised, the white plastic item pictured in my previous post is then free to move from side to side. Push it towards the centre of the player (actually the spring may pull it that way, I can't recall now), then begin winding the pulley back in the other direction.

The laser assembly will drop, and after that keep on winding and the big tray will come sliding out.

Hi, only just saw this.

Image (and here's a link if you can't see it inline) - the slightly yellowish L-shaped plastic piece is the important bit.

This white plastic piece slides from side to side, but is only free to move when the laser transport is in 'playback position' - that is fully risen, with the disc (if it were present) clamped, by winding the pulley - so once that's done, slide the piece to the other side, then 'wind in reverse' so the transport drops, and then, after much finger-tiring winding, either the large or small tray will start sliding out - if it's the small one, you'll have to go back to the start again, and slide the plastic piece to the other position!
