I've owned quite a few LD players since before DVD's. I've done some minor repairs on them and I've even parted out some players that really weren't worth saving. I recently swapped a DVL-700's motor into a DVL-909 that had a dead motor (I popped it open and one of the brushes had a couple tiny green corrosion spots that ate right through the tiny copper arm, causing that brush to no longer make contact), but during my research about motor compatibility, someone somewhere said they successfully put a motor from a CLD player into a DVL player. I had thought they were not compatible! Now, I've seen quite a few LD motors in my days from Pioneer based players (including rebranded ones), so it got me wondering what exactly made these motors so different from one another. I'm referring to players made after the mid 90's, not really old models. Does anyone have a definitive answer?

PS- anyone know of a source for replacement brushes for these motors? I'm dying to try and fix this bad motor. Lol! It actually popped open with little effort and very slight damage to the back plate.

Thanks! What about the karaoke models of the same vintage, like the V888?

I cannot remember if the DVL-V888/CLD-V870/CLD-V870 use that motor or the one in the CLD-D504/604 and CLD-59 which have a larger top shaft bearing. You would have to go look in the manuals section on lddb and compare the base part numbers.
