Usually it means the DVD laser is gone
Was it working ok before? When it can't focus then it sends the LD optics to read it because it has to determine what media is insert into the player.

On a DVL 919, I fixed the LD laser assembly transport problem, so now LDs work just fine, both sides. The only current problem is that the DVD laser won't read. Insert a DVD, the laser moves out, DVD spins up, I hear a small beeping sound, the laser switches to LD, DVD spins up and of course LD laser won't read, it goes back and brings out DVD laser. DVD spins up again and then a beep again, and it quits. Often then the tray opens, sometimes the player just turns off. Anyone know about this beeping sound and what it signifies? |

That's what I thought, but was curious about the beep. Supposedly it was working when put into storage years ago, but who knows. People sometimes cannot remember that far back. At least the LD is working well. That's the most important part anyway. |
