Picked up a DVL-909 a few days ago. I need a voltage converter since this machine (NTSC) is 120V and 60hz. Converting it to 230V is not a problem, but the frequency would still be 60hz, when the powergrid in Norway is 50hz.
Didn't think about the frequency at all when I bought it.
Just let me get it straight that the machine is not 50/60hz, only 60hz.
Am I screwed if I'm using it for a prolonged period of time or using it at all?
Consequences?

Some says it's okay, some don't. :|

Yes, indeed! It is a good question.
Running a 60hz machine on 50hz would cause it to run a little warmer than normal I think.
If your machines has "50 - 60hz" on the back, then you are probably fine.

Won't be a problem, I'v been running more than one player using a voltage converter.
You could fit a European dvl-909 power supply.... :!:

If fitting a european power supply means soldering, then I'm not in for it. A simple remove & install I can do.
The only worry is the hertz. I don't want to take the risk of melting something inside the machine and eventually burn down the house.

Well, any suggestions for a quality voltage converter?

There would be no soldering involved. it's a simple fit. you just need to change the whole PS board.

Well, if I should stumble over an european power supply I could take the time to install it.
But for now I will use an automatic voltage converter so I can be assure that I get the correct amount of voltage the machine needs.

Could be of interest with pictures of these. I have been looking at the PDF service manual here on this forum over the DVL-909 and there is just schematics etc. I thought there would be "how-to" on removal and installing parts, - that could be useful.
If it means I have to disassemble lots of parts to get to the psu, then I might end up with a non working Laserdisc player. :P

it's quite easy to change the psu =) just pull the screws to the chassis and take a look ;)

I could respond in norwegian, but then, nobody would have understood what we were talking about. ;)

My player is supplied with a removable ac power cord, and the outlet is integrated into the chassis.
60hz~50hz power supply would be the way to go, but what about the outlet which is integrated into the chassis, does it need to be cut out?

the outlet is integrated on the PSU it self and just screwed to the chassis =)

Thanks, Kris! :)

Very useful with some photos.
Too bad, the circuit card is different to mine. Opened my player today. The power supply is integrated into a larger circuit card. The good thing is that my player is actually 120vAC 50/60hz 56w, not only 60hz 57w as stated on the back!
Incorrect information at the back of the player. Then I should have no problems using it in 50 hz outlet.

My problem now is that my 200 watt voltage converter is not sufficient. Powering up the machine requires a lot more power.

200W is more than enough, if it doesn't power on with that kind of wattage there is something wrong! :/ you can buy a cheap one on clasohlson for 200KR, just remember to get the 100W one, as the one at 50W doesn't have cooling.
