Hi All, I was watching a film last night and all of a sudden the left audio channel started crackling like vinyl. Initially I thought it was the disc but after some testing with other discs decided to remove the audio leads one at a time. When both leads are in Left and Right Crackle louder than the soundtrack on the disc. When only the left lead is in i get the same results of the crackle. When only the right lead is in then i get the original audio without the crackle. I have not tested the digital out and AC3-RF out and will be testing those today when I can find my decoder (Im Re-decorating the whole house) My electronics is not bad when it comes to digital and replacing components but dont know where to start with analogue. I do have a oscilloscope for testing the audio path and would suspect a capacitor or transistor but require help on this one. Thanks Ian |

Switch cables, maybe? There could be a short in there causing the crackling. |

I have seen two causes. Laser is aging and the RF level is getting low. The digital sound is the first thing to go. The second would be resistor or capacitor feeding voltage to the to the D/A chip. |
