I'm having issues with my DVL-V888. Right now its playing LDs, and DVDs perfectly, but its rejecting CDs, VCDs, and CD+G. Since I bought this player on ebay its always been finnicky about CDs, but now it flat out refuses to play them. How can I fix this?

Edit to say there is no error message being display. It simply tries to pay it, flips the laser around a few times then says open.

I would suggest the mechanical needs to be centered to the spindle motor. May be off a little.

Krbahr is correct, CD Spindle centering has to be "Dead on" for it to find table of contents and scanning and skipping to a different track for a song and some times you might find a area from tracks 4 through 7 play perfect also.

SO spindle centering must be adjusted and Tangential adj. Checked and adjusted as well and spindle adjustments will affect it sometimes then back to Spindle adjustment adjustment to check its still centered, then must do side B to fine adjust or check that its in specs and then Side B tangential on laser on Side B then repeat. Then play a Audio CD and LD on side A and B. If it plays fine, your done.

That's why its important to have a LD Tech to carry out these critical tasks.

I have encountered many players that were new from Pioneer that were out of centering as its crucial and takes a great amount of time depending on what model of LD player it is.

Anyways, I hope I cleared the process in whats involved.

It's fairly simple if you are mechanically inclined. There is a tab you turn the moves the mechanical assembly to the right or left of the spindle motor. You need to find the two extremes where it just starts to skip on a CD and the center between the points. This is the simple ballpark way if you don't have an oscilloscope for the precise method.

I'm confused as where this adjustment is. Here is a picture with the top off. Where am I making it? Also the player is having B side playing trouble now.

On the upper mechanical assy there is a square hole on the left front top. Look down thru that and you should see a tab you can turn with a screw driver. Put in a CD and turn it until it plays and then center between the extremes where it starts to skip. This also adjust the side B centering so verify you don't need to adjust the side B only adjustment
