The flash ROM chip is corrupt, it needs to be reprogrammed.

This sort of thing could eventually happen to anything that uses a Flash ROM. It takes many years usually, but it's a time bomb regardless.

I have seen it and made mistakes on PC motherboards with the Bios Flashing gone wrong

Especially with Gigabyte MB and hence why they had dual Bios for a Backup later in early 2000.

Even the \../ makes Big Errors!!

I have a 909 player with the same fault. The Flash ROM is IC603 and part number is VYW1601-A. I have researched and it seems that these Eproms are the MBM29F400TA-70PF. I was just wondering if it would be possible to copy the data from a working one and then program it onto a new MBM29F400TA-70PF.

O.k., that sounds good. I only have to find someone who is able to do this and find a MBM29F400TA-70PF. Does anybody know if another Eprom would work? I just checked and I cannot find anything on the original one except the Pineer part number.

Almost certainly not very helpful but Amazon Japan (not a random reseller either) has it...

Thanks for checking, but it is not the right one. This one is the "PFTN" version and the players need the "PF" Version. The "PFTN" would not fit.

I ran across this error by mixing up the DVD boards. Pioneer revved the DVDM board in later players which have "(1)" on the back. I believe if you mix a newer DVDM with the older front panel assemblies, you get this. Flashing the ROM might fix it - I solved the problem by not mixing the boards.

It's not so easy to fix in a 919. They have the chip soldered onto the board. The 909 has a socketed chip. There it's easy to swap.

Does anyone have a complete dump of a DVL-919 or DVL-91 flash?
