Post subject:  Dumb question: dvl700 plays in b and w

I think I am probably being a little dense again... Today I took delivery of my second player a dvl700 and incurred the wrath of a very angry wife demanding to know why I needed a second LD player and where it was going. After much playing for time and appeasement I convinced Her it'd go in my daughters room hooked up to a sony kvm 14 in crt.

Sadly thus far I can't get a colour output and only mono sound (I have one of those composite to scart converter things but that didn't do the job). Any ideas I assume it's to do with the refresh rate of the tv and on my cinema set up with a projector it'd be fine. I am hoping there's a solution since I sold the player being in little one's room on basis it plays DVDs. Incidentally I know its region locked for them but I shall feign ignorance if that ever comes out!

Cheers nick

How do you have it connected? Check my signature link if you're at all uncertain. It's important to remember that the component output is intended only for DVD playback, & will give anomalous results (which may appear as monochrome picture) during LD playback. If you want a single connexion, S-Video would be the one to chose.

It was just via composite hadn't appreciated that on this player that'd primarily be used for dvd so thanks! Not sure if I have a s video connection on this tv. Looks more likely I may need to swap my players around - the other reason being I have a very noisy stepdown which sorta ruins the ambience of movie watching!!

DVL-700 didn't have component. Sounds more like trying to watch a NTSC signal on a PAL TV, the colour is processed differently.
