Post subject:  [DVL-909] How to "grease the rails"?

Sorry I posted my issue in the LD Players section and then realized it was the wrong area. I know there are similar threads here but figured I would start mine fresh.

Picked up a DVL-909 as part of a lot purchase, was owned by sellers uncle, seller tells me it has been sitting unused for at least 5 years.

Problem 1 - Plays the disc fine but skips back (seems to be a common issue) , will FFWD or RWD through the problem areas perfectly fine and proceed until another problem area pops up. Of note is that if I leave it alone, it will skip 2-3 times and then finally succeed on its own without my help.

Problem 2 - When the pickup flips to side B and starts playing at the beginning the plastic gear will not engage the plastic rail on its own, it will if I FFWD or give it a little manual push.

Please see attached picture (this is not my unit, forgot to take a pic of mine).

For problem 2 I adjusted this little black screw which actually seems to have solved the problem, what did I do and how do I adjust that correctly?

For problem 1 I assume that I need to grease the rails, do I grease both the steel rod that the pickup is attached to and also the steel rail on the opposite side that the white plastic rides on top of or both? I tried this with some liquid bearings I use on my turntables but problem persists, is this too thin and should I get some actual white lithium grease? Also for side A is there a rod and a rail that both need greasing?

Thank you in advance.

Got it fixed, I shimmed the top plastic rail which seemed loose, not sure why that helped?

Problem 1: Yes, there is a similar plastic rail and metal guide rod which the optics slides on when playing side A. It goes from the spindle motor and backwards against the turn mechanism. I have greased both of them, but the plastic rail doesn't need much - apply only a little and move the optics with your hand to make an even layer. Too much could really do worse than good. As for skipping, check the plastic cogs where the M-holder is attached to the laser optics - they are in contact with the plastic rails and could have some dirt on them, grain or possible visible defects such as broken pieces.

Problem 2: This black screw is some sort of adjustment for side B, I believe it has something to do with the centering.
