Post subject:  [DVL-90] Stopped working, appears stuck?

Here I go again, this time not new player but existing that just stopped working while I was watching, any advice is appreciated -

DVL-90, was playing fine then it just stopped responding.

I removed the cover to get the disc out (I just get a flashing light on the front, display will say "open" but nothing happens). I can get the tray to open by manually turning the loader belt pulley with my finger and once open it will usually close if I power on but same issue once it is closed it will not open.

I can also manually spin the wheel in the back to flip the laser over and upon powering up the laser will flip back over but never moves forward to engage on the track (its hiding in the back).

It almost seems like its lost or something since I know the tray can work (it does close if I open it manually and all of the gears and belt are fine as it does open if I spin it manually) and I know the laser flipping works mechanically. I rearranged some thing recently and I may have unplugged it before it was completely powered down but it was playing ok before it failed.

Any idea what to try here? Should I try and force the laser out onto the track?

There are a couple sensors on the bottom toward the spindle motor, try moving them to see if it helps. You can spin the pickup movement motor shaft to bring it out with power off then plug it in and turn it on and see where the pickup goes. Could be a switch, could be a ribbon cable, could be electronics.

Thanks I will mess with it over the holidays. This is what I want to be my flagship player so if I cannot get it are you accepting players for repair?

I hope to be moved after the holidays and could look then if you don't get it fixed.

I got brave and decided to dig deeper, the laser would not move manually so I managed to force it out and noticed that the gears were stuck, there was one area of the gear that would snag every time. I swapped the gears out with the V2800 I was trying to fix and appears all good now.

Thanks again for the help.

And that's why you never have enough LD player donors

Well done.
it's nice to fix something isn't it.
Until this day I only found troubled mechanics. never an electronical one.
Never rocket science and straight forward repairs and that's what I love about LD players.

keep it up

Yes very satisfying.

Also created an issue that I knew how to solved based on working on my DVL-909, if side b is even a hair out of alignment it will skip back somewhere in the first minute, these combo units seem very sensitive to that....I must have thrown this one off taking it apart.
