Working on a dvl-91 unit for a friend, and im unsure whats wrong. When its powered the display on the machine say "close". If you hit play, eject etc, you only get a 'play' on the display, but nothing else happens there either. You also hear a very high pitched tone |

If it had something to do with the belt, the machine would try to do something, but its just completely idle. It's most likely the sensor that checks if the tray is closed or not. |

Exactly it will not do anything if the disc doesn't load completely and properly thus loading belt is where you start. The high pitched tone you describe is very possibly the belt slipping. This is all not even mentioning that cleaning the loading belt is a simple and free thing to try so that is where you start. When it powers on and says close that means it is trying to close but cannot complete the action (because the loading belt is slipping and causing the noise described). Source - Two fixed eBay players in the past month with exact same symptoms that just needed loading belts. Also if you ask for help but won't take the advice given why are you asking? |

Also if you ask for help but won't take the advice given why are you asking? this is NOT the loading belt, i have fixed a lot of players with worn out belts, the tone is electrical, not the loading motor trying to run. If it was the loading belt, it would try lift the disc and/or pull the tray in our out, the player doesn't do anything at all, it is most likely the sensor that checks if the tray is closed or not. I'm asking because i've never run into this kind of problem before, i have worked on a lot of players, changed spindle motors, realigned pickups, and what not, so this isn't my first time working on a player. I have of course the player open and can clearly see the motor doesn't do anything. |

I apologize for my extreme ignorance in trying to help you troubleshoot the player, clearly you should try some of the ideas that everyone else has offered up.... |
