Hi All, I just purchased a Pioneer DVL - 91. The unit plays a LD okay, except when I change tracks it makes a grinding/squeaking noise and then changes track. This noise is also there, when I first start the disc - but the noise is less so. I have seen a few videos of the 91 and they do not make the same noise. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. |

Open it up and check to see if the clamp is slipping on the disc trying to spin it up. That clamp pad can get dirty and slip. It will do that when you first start the disk spinning it up but will also do it on side changes because it stops the disc and then will spin it in the other direction for side 2. Best way to do it is take the top off and eject the tray you can then see the clamp pad. You may have to take the top clamp part and its 4 screws off first to be able to fully inspect the pad. You can also view the clamp in action on the left side of the player see if you can see it moving and the disc will not start to spin until a second or two later thats when you know it needs to be cleaned. |

Could need lubrication on the guide rail or the movement motor for the laser is going bad. Try playing DVD to see if you get the same noise. |

I don't have any NTSC DVDs - So I tried a CD. There is no noise when using a CD, compared to the Laserdisc. So what does that indicate? Thanks for the assistance. |

Is this your first LD player? This is an important question because LD players are comparatively noisier than almost any other format so we need calibrate our expectations accordingly. If this is your 100th player then obviously the noise must be significant. YouTube is handy for these kinds of things. Do you have a decent phone or something to make a video? |
