Well I think if you got this far you should not have a problem changing the belt, however if you send it to Kurtis (krbahr) most likely he can get the player fully operational again.

It's under the tray at the left front, Extend it out or better remove the tray and you can see it. Pioneer part number VEB1184; generic part SCQ3.6

Thanks I ordered the belt should be here soon. How does the tray come out? I looked at it briefly but could not figure it out.

There are a couple "J" hooks at the back of the tray, one on each side, press them to the side and it will come out.

Glad to hear you got it working, I forget on Dvls you have to take out the tray since they have the 504 mechanism.
I really wonder why the went with that instead of the 503/704 mech on dvls.

Anyway enjoy your player.

Ok an update. Watched the Dire Straits LD with their music videos tonight and it started skipping at the end. Flip did not work well. It skipped on the start of b side. Took it out and put another disk in. I think there is a tracking problem at the extreme flip side. Going to try some movies in the future to see if they do it too.

Then again it might be laser rot? I looked at the disk and its foggy on the edges. What does laser rot look like?

Nothing.

If the disc that is skipping at the end is a CAV recorded disc then the focus servo needs adjustment. If it is any disc then the tilt or tangential angle is out of adjustment.

I tried another Music disc and it did not skip.

The Disc says CLV:

That could be the issue causing the skipping, keep in mind that the outer edge is the end of the disc.
Are you still having issue when you flip to side B?
There is the side B centering adjustment that can effect starting B side play.

That looks like an odd kind of edgerot to me, since it's a WEA disk it could be a bonding defect specific to their plant. rein-o's correct for Pioneer and Sony rotters, but some plants have visible rot. PDO UK disks (CD's as well!) turned/rot bronze.

The most amusing is Discovision's sharpie-rot, where they occasionally marked good sides with pen... which ate through the aluminum in those areas.

The side b skipping thing is all too frequent on the DVLs so that may need adjustment independent of any of the other issues you have...

Watched Top Gun tonight and it had an issue when it went to side B. Skipped a lot. so what needs adjustment and who can do it?

Check this thread, of Pbiancardi's, if it sounds the same as your problem you might want to try the adjustment as illustrated in the picture, which is much
clearer then I could explain.(credit where its due I hope)

Keep in mind these are very minute adjustments.

beyond that Kurtis is the one to talk to.

Just remember the old saying.
The more you do the more it will cost to fix when you don't get it right.

I'm no tech so I am not held responsible for any issues you mess up with.
