Some time ago I bought (from eBay) this PAL LD: Three Tenors in Concert, The: Carreras/Domingo/Pavarotti (1990) [071 123-1]For unknown reason this LD has no audio (only kind of white noise in Analog output). This LD has only Analog audio (and no CX). Is the disc defective? Or kind of non-standard? It is the only LD with such problem in my collection - My LD player is Pioneer DVL-919E Can somebody confirm that audio on his/her version (PAL LD) works? By the way labels at this DECCA LD have CC and DDD marked on them. Can I expect Closed Captions on this disc? How Analog LD can be DDD? (in CD world it means - Digital tape recorder used during initial recording, mixing/editing and for mastering OR Digital recording, Digital mixing, Digital transfer) BR Lauri

Yes the PAL Pioneer DVL players should all handle analogue audio. Some of the earlier CLD models didn't, which seemed a bizarre idea at the time - given the range of PAL titles was small, stopping consumers being able to play some of the earlier film releases for the sake of a tiny bit of circuitry... I suspect what's happening here is that the disc you mention is actually a digital sound disc - which the 1990 date and lddb listing both demonstrate. However if the disc has started rotting, the digital soundtrack can often be the first thing to go. DVL players won't find it, will identify the disc as 'Analog' and play the white noise you've been hearing. This happens to a lot of the initial 'gold' CD-Video discs pressed at PDO Blackburn, although I don't know where the disc you have was pressed.
