Post subject:  [DVL-909] Spins down

Someone gave me a dvl player.
with ld loaded it suddenly starts accelerating very fast upon the point it stops without being able to play any video. same with dvd and cd.
it loads and recognizes disc types without a problem. from time to time with an empty tray it looks like it can't decide what laser to choose... sometimes the dvd laser starts " looking for nothing" and repeats the cycle again and again parking and changing with the ld laser... it is exhausting to watch  :lolno: :wtf:

when it attempts to play a disc the velocity spinning appears to go up in an attempt to play the disc and then FULL stop.
thinking the disc might be slipping but it doesn't squeek or looks like a worn grip ring. I never had a grip ring issue with a dvl or cld-d925, 515 , 315..
any toughts on where to look?

Hate dvl players. so much going on inside

Could be a bad RPM sensor. If the motor bearings went bad the RPM slotted ring can drop down on the RPM sensor rub the plastic casing until it covers the hole or the sensor could be bad. If good then it is a disc reading issue or bad electronics.

changed out the sensor. thank you for the tip. with some patience it wasn't that bad to swap. found a plastig leg inside the player along with one coming from the prc hub. put in a new one.
Player managed to turn like it should for a while but stopped after a few minutes.
this got me thinking about the electronics so I changed out the main board.
And it works like charm now. Did not investigate what goes wrong there since I had a donor parts dvl-909 that I got heavily used once.
Kept it around for days like these.

Thank you for your input Krbahr

Kurtis,
This is the correct symptom I messaged you elsewhere regarding my CLD-99. In addition to bearing wear have you seen the entire clamp slide down the shaft? Along this line of error, is there any way that alignment issues could increase the downward force on that clamp assembly?

Thanks!
