Hello there.

I have a EU DVL-909 (originally Region 2 - PAL/NTSC on both laserdiscs and dvds).

If i select MENU+INITIAL+DISPLAY i get the following:

REGION:2
Ver: 1.210/8
AV1:3.31RAM

Unit powers on in NTSC. No PAL laserdisc playback allowed.

I guess this was modded back in the '90s to DVL-91 DTS-OUT + region free selectable + macrovision off.

So it behaves like a DVL-91 elite series NTSC player.

These were the mods info/guide:

[EDIT] https://drive.google.com/file/d/1OC0dlO ... 4KuOv/view

Now... the player is fine, but as you may know, it lost its PAL compatibility on the laserdiscs, which I'd like to regain for a number of reasons.

Best of all, would be to finally mod the unit with a simple A/B switch in order to be able to choose to power it on as PAL DVL-909 or NTSC DVL-91 (best of both worlds).

Unfortunately i have no info on how to revert the DTS hardware mod that was performed, because the original resistors that were removed are lost and i do not know what their values were.

Only thing i know it's they were resistors R109 and R110.

Can anyone point out a guide or just supply me with the info i need to achieve my goal?

FIRMWARE MOD: i read around on the web, that there was also a possibility of updating the firmware on these LDV players in some way. I have found no info whatsoever on how to perform such firmware updates/upgrades. Would that be an easy fix or there would be a conflict between the hardware mod and the firmware?

Thanks in advance!

Long live the Laserdisc! :-)

Google Drive link is broken.

R109 should measure 4.7k (US) and you need 20k (EU).
R110 should measure 12k (US) and you need 27k (EU).

Edit: Fixed values.

In the guide "Modifica DTS" contained in the .rar file i linked above (link now fixed) it says:

Replace R109 with a resistor of 4.7kohm.

Replace R110 with a resistor of 12kohm.

The values above were pulled from the DVL-909 SM, so I'm not sure where 4.7k/12k are coming from.

Does it say on the SM if it refers to the US model or EU model of the DVL-909 ??

Or one SM covers all versions?? :?:

In the table, RD/RA is listed as Region 1. WY is Region 2.

Wonderful!

We are talking about a power rating of 0,25W (1/4W) resistors right?

 thanks!

I assume so. You can go higher but not lower.

In regards to the 4.7k/12k I have confirmed that is what is from the factory on a DVL-91.

Edited my above posts to prevent future confusion.

Great, thanks man!

PS - I'd still like to find out about firmware flashing on the DVL-xxx series...

If you refer to the mod in general... the reason is... I need to regain PAL laserdisc playback.

Ideal would be to install an A/B switch that would enable to turn the DTS mod ON and OFF.

So a switch and both sets of resistors would be required in this case.

If you refer to the flashing "approach", i was wondering if that would help go back to a "pre-mod status" w/out having to do a hardware mod, resistors, soldering iron etc.
