Hello all,

I'm new here and just got my first LD player I'm sort of casually jumping into the LD world. The player I got is a Sony MDP-600 despite seeing it seemed Sony had a bad run of luck for this player's life. It's all good I'm no stranger to repairing old tech. I was trying to hunt down the issue I'm having and it seems the most common issue (Like will all older electronics) is Power supply caps and the like. Luckily, at this time, I don't have any issue with it. I'll eventually open her up and do a little preventative maintenance to prolong life as much as I can.

My issue is with my remote (RTM-M19A). I did purchase it separately. However, for ease I bought the OEM remote that would have shipped with the player. The remote will not turn the player on or off but, It will (once the player is on) open and close the tray. Also, none of the buttons function beyond cueing up the player to pause or playing the disc. I've poured over the user manual to see if there was some sort of setting I missed and I couldn't find anything. I did get it to work as intended once but, have yet to replicate what I did. The remote has fresh batteries and with the aforementioned functions it does do, it works flawlessly but, frustrating as you can imagine. Has anyone ran into what I'm describe previously? thanks!

Have you done a simple test of aiming the remote into something like a web cam to see if the remote will emit the IR light for the power button?

Thanks for the tip, I'll look into a way to do that.

Your phone camera should work as well.

So I finally got around to trying this out. I get an IR blast for all my buttons on the remote with the exception of the Search/Next button. I'm going to snag another remote for this player and see if that works for now.
