For the mighty Sony HIL-C2EX are there any Laser Pickup's and Spindle Motors available? Is yes, do you guys know any website where they can be ordered as well as part numbers?

These players like the Pioneer also have the "nasty habit" to need a belts once in a while?

One day I will own a C2EX or C1.

Good luck with your parts search.

A lot of people here have an irrational hatred of anything Sony, it perpetuates and more and more people assume all Sony products are garbage without any actual personal experience. It's pretty sad.

Although I've never seen any Hi Vision player in action (Sony or Pioneer) the chassis on the C1 and C2EX are gorgeous and I've had better experiences with standard Sony players than Pioneer ones so a C1 or C2EX is my holy grail.

While I've never had any Sony LD players I have had Sony CD players, Walkman's, boomboxes and other Sony products that have only lasted 4 years or less.
All have been garbage and have not lasted nearly as long as the Pioneer, Carver, Panasonic, Sansui, Garrard and numerous other brands
of which I can't even remember that I have sold to upgrade over the years.

The non-MUSE Sony players had higher grain in the picture than Pioneer players and had issues that would break with each player, then Sony stopped supporting them long ago. I've only seen 1 Sony MUSE player the C2 so I cannot rate them. All I can say is Pioneer still has some parts and more players in the marketplace to get parts from. Sony and Panasonic just totally dropped out and dumped their parts somewhere many years ago.

Then I would recommend you do before formulating an informed opinion.

In my opinion the Sony has a brighter and more colorful picture (according to my actual experience).
With more brightness and detail comes "grain" and that is pure logical, we cannot do anything, so here it's a matter of taste.

In some discs is very critical to watch in a Pioneer (i mean a regular one) as the picture suffers from "smoothness", while in the Sony's they tend to look better, i don't mind very much the "grain".

Now, concerning to the parts, it's difficult to get indeed, and that is the reason of this thread, to know if anyone has access to them.

Retro_games, check this link: http://www.lasertrader.de
Optical laser pickup KHS-160A for Sony HIL-C2E & HIL-C2EX is in stock there, I suppose. It has a green light for being in stock (if currently updated) and available for delivery!

You've obviously never owned Sony ES gear. I feel a little sorry for you and your bias. Oh well I'll just keep enjoying my 20 year old ES amp taking my signal from my QS MD deck (JB980) and feeding it to my hand made in England Sony speakers. Total cost: a lot less than you spent on your esoteric "audiophile" gear. Sound is so sweet here in objective open minded land...

This is what it's all about, personal taste. The reason I like Sony normal players is they are overall more reliable than Pioneer, I actually prefer Pioneers "smoothed" picture as most here do. I never thought about the roughness of Sony video to mean it's more pure and honest. I like that thinking, I might take another look at Sony's picture with a different perspective now. Sound however, Sony players win hands down. 5 out of 5 Pioneers I've owned have had the digital sound badly deteriorate after a few months. Never happened with my 5 Sonys, sound was already superior to the Pios when they worked, and never deteriorated. I just hate Sony tray mechs, prone to jamming.

Kind of silly that we should be fighting of which brand is the best. Are we talking about the new term "Sony Master Race" and "Pioneer Master Race"?
