I see Kurtis is on this board...... Glad to see you here.
I have a Yamaha W901 (Pioneer clone) with a dead power supply. Can I send you just the power supply? Or can you sell me a replacement?

On another topic. I have a mid range Pioneer CLD-50? (need to find it in the garage) with both the AC3 mod and the digital audio mod. I'm hesitant to turn it on as it is a wiring mess.
I haven't been able to find the docs for the digital audio mod and have thought about pulling the ac3 mod out and putting it in my Pioneer 702 instead. If I dig up the model info would you have the install info?

My guess for the power supply is the dreaded Pioneer Arc Suppressor failing. It will look like a diode probably labeled D106 by the power input and the fuse will be blown. Clip out the Arc Supp and replace the fuse, it should work.

I have never seen a CLD-50 but guess it is a late 80's unit. If you have one of the AC-3 RF boards in it then yes it can be removed and installed in your D702. Here is a link where someone described the 702 install process

Curtis,
Thanks for the reply. Can't find a D106 anywhere on the board. The power supply is labelled VWR1256-A, HS-654PU and OM-94080 and 45W
There is a D6 right by the fuse, input power and bridge rectifier. D6 is labelled 457 with a yellow band.On the back of the board D6 has a weird symbol. Not the normal diode but 3 parallel lines with a diagonal cutting through them. I'll check D6 out and let you know.

About the other player I meant it was a CLD504 or CLD503 or CLD505 need to look at it again.

The description you have for D6 sounds correct. Now if the fuse is not blown this is not the problem. When this goes it shorts and blows the fuse.

Checked D6, showed dead short measured both ways. removed D6, replaced blown fuse. powered it up - no smoke...
Standby led comes on. Press "on" on the remote and I hear a click and the standby led flashes thats it. No display. Tried powering it up with the tray out a bit. It didn't move. Sounds like it has more probs.

If you can send me pictures of the power supply I may have boards removed from CLD-D504 players. If the pictures don't fit here Email them to kbahr@comcast.net

Picture of power supply. I see I missed the connectors on the right there are 2 - one is a flat ribbon cable and one is a 2 wire labelled CN1. I know the fuse is the wrong physical size but it is the right rating.

More data on the audio boards... I found them installed in a CLD-503.
One is labelled BDE Schott 12545 and I'm guessing its a Coax digital audio?
The other is labelled Precision LD-1 and I'm guessing that is the AC-3 RF?

I'll have to look at my supplies when I get home. Definitely looks like a CLD-D504 or one from that design group.

You are correct about the other two boards. The LD-1 is an AC-3 RF output board and the other is digital coax.

Your supply is Pioneer part number VWR1258. I have a VWR1260 but would need to test it first to make sure it is operational. The difference is normally the current rating and the 1260 should be OK.

If interested I'll test it.

I get fuses from places like Digi-Key, Mouser or other on-line sources. I try to get to the Power supply soon.

If still interested I have tested my 45W power supply, it is a 120V only supply. It does not have the second coil in it. If you want to proceed can you send a picture of the connections on the other end of you supply?

This Post is directed to "Kurtis".... as a new user I believe this thread is directly related to an issue we are having with our Laser Disc Player !!
Within our older Home Theater System we have a Pioneer CLD-D604 Laser Disc Player, which has died. Investigation found that the Power supply board, VWR-1256-A, perhaps has the bad diode on the primary side which may be what causes it to blow the fuse, and also overheat several other components on the PS board primary side. Do you, or do you know anybody, that may repair or replace this PC board?
We hate to lose access to a substantial Laser Disc library because the player is in-opt, plus the family really liked playing with the Karaoke feature using the several Pioneer karaoke disc we have.

Any and all advice would be appreciated. Thanx, Jim B.
