I've got a couple of issues with my Denon LA-2300 that I thought I'd run by the forum in case anyone knows what is going on.

Firstly, the composite video output seems to be missing a field. There is quite thick interlacing lines on the image that leads me to believe that somehow the player is dropping out a whole field. The S-Video output is working fine, but the composite out on this model provides a better image, which is why I'd like to explore fixing it.

Second, the analog audio has a deep bass sound that is going constantly. The distortion sort of flutters.

Any ideas on what these problems are and if they can be repaired?

Hate to say it but this sounds more like the output from the laser is getting weak. Open up the player and see if it has a RF gain or RF level to adjust on the main circuit board. Not all players have this.

Thanks for the info, I'll check it out. What should I look for when I open it up?

As I recall, that's the clone of the CLD-D515, and should be a PAL/NTSC dual format player. Is that an accurate description of your player?

Oddly enough, my CLD-D515 doesn't have S-video out, but has a scart output. Does yours have a scart output?

Definitely a clone, but this model does not have a scart output.

The LA-2300 is also NTSC only. It is the LA-2300A that is dual format.

When you open it up look inside next to where the power cord comes into the player, the fuse will be near that. Then you'll see a diode bridge IC and the Arc Suppressor will be around that.

I opened it up and had a look. Found the fuse, but it was quite densely packed and I couldn't make out anything that I could adjust with my limited knowledge of electronics. Not to worry, I'll just run it into the ground and then switch to my backup until I can afford a suitable replacement. With that in mind, what laserdisc player should I look to buy next for longevity and ease of repair? Perhaps that should be a new thread.

Thanks for your help.

Everyone talk highly of the 925 for a PAL/NTSC player. I just use NTSC so I cannot say from experience.
