Post subject:  [LA-2300A] "P5" error?

Good morning community,

yesterday I watched "Eraser" with Arnold Schwarzenegger and when the laser was supposed to switch to the B side the film didn't proceed - instead I got the error message "P5" on the display. I stopped the LD (NTSC) and tried again - same result. To be sure I took another LD (PAL), tried A and B side - both worked.

:?:  :wtf:

Searching in the net I found this:

CODE
MEANING

H0
Spindle overcurrent detection

U0
FG abnormality (spindle speed sensor)

H1
Spindle not reaching required speed before time-out

H2
A0

-5V power supply line abnormality

L*
Loading error (timed-out, no tilt)

E*
Slider error

U1
Miss clamp

P*
Spindle error

F*
Focus error

* = 1: Play, 2: Open, 3: Standby, 4: Clamp, 5: Setup (rotation start), 6: TOC read, 7: Play

8: Search, 9: Side A > B, A: Side B > A

So I had a Spindle error/Setup (rotation start)

What does this mean exactly? Is there a problem with the specific Laserdisc or with the player???

Thanks for your help!

Klaus

Most probably it has to do with the disc as the spindle motor can not lock to the Table Of Content, as Eraser is a known rotter, it might be the TOC is affected and thus the side is not playable anymore.
If you only have this problem with this title and any other PAL / NTSC disc has no problem you know why.

Ok, thanks. Just checked the database. This release is marked as "avoid this release" :-( So I have to check another one. I'm happy that it is NOT my player making problems :D

i don't know this player, but i had an issue with 1 disc not changing sides to B.
LD service said it was the rubber on the clamp inside drying up.

it could be something like that, but if it is eraser i would just get a DVD, it's not expensive anyway.
sometimes you will get 1 bad disc, even my better player had trouble and i thought it was the player,
but it was the disc that was warped.

This DENON is a relabeled Pioneer cld d515 ;-)

I'll report when it shows this error again...

Klaus

Ps:btw did you change the rubber?

i didn't yet, he said around 20 bucks but also said to try orange cleaner on it.
did the orange cleaner but didn't use a rag as he said, just wipe on etc.

but make sure that your player is the same as mine, he told me how to open it with the tray out etc.
i've never seen your player so i don't want to give advice that you might damage.
so double check.

i'm going to wait for the player to do something again and then figure when i spend the money on the new rubber.

Well, I checked out another release of Eraser (PAL) and it worked without any problems, the laser changed sides without any error. So obviously it was something with the LD and not with the player :-)
