Hi,

Where can i locate a rear belt for my LX-600 (hopefully with instructions) ?

Awhile ago I replaced the front belt to fix the open/close issue, but the issue now is with the rubber belt that drives the tray and the clamp. I tried to clean with ISO alcohol but it is blocked behind a rail.

Thanks alot , Peter

Which belt are we talking about here?.......

Image

The large belt on the left is called a "forward belt" and it appears to attach to the laser pick-up to move it back & forth and up & down for A/B sides. The smaller belt on the right is called a "motor belt" that powers the laser pick-up movement.

There is a third belt which is the loading belt that I believe (like the Pioneer units) is responsible for loading as well as movement of the tray up & down including clamping.

So that is the “forward belt” but that has nothing to do with driving the tray or clamper.

What exactly is the symptom you are having with the player?

LD Fan,

Here is a link to a video I posted on reddit : https://www.reddit.com/r/LaserDisc/comments/10003kd/panasonic_lx600u_player_stops_spinning/
Manos replied and said the belt is slipping .
When I hit the power, I hear 3 or 4 clicks . Later , if i hit play, nothing happens.

Based on what you describe, I think the issue is the motor belt (the smaller one that I noted in the schematic).

I don't think it's the "forward belt" because (correct me if I am wrong) but it's a tooth belt which literally can't slip (unless it's actually broken). It is more likely the "motor belt" since they are designed to slip when they get old and stretched (just like your loading belt).

See if you can observe that belt and take note if it doesn't move when the motor it is connected to is turning. If that is what you see, you can remove the belt and measure it to see about ordering a replacement that will need to be slightly smaller in diameter (or maybe someone on our site can recommend what the actual size is).

LD Fan,

From this picture , i have 2 belts - which one is the motor belt ? https://imgur.com/Eo9xbwI

note: there is a small belt in the front that I replaced a couple months ago that fixed the door open/close problem.

Thanks, Peter

That belt is one in the same. It’s running on a track as I stated to move the laser pick all over the place. Think of it like a chain drive that brings a rollercoaster to the top of a drop.

Anyway, the belt you are looking for should be on that assembly but lower (retracting the tray may show it). Also, the motor for that belt should be on the opposite side so locate that first and then you’ll know where the belt should be. Look at the schematic and try to picture it for reference.

LD Fan,
Thanks for your help.
I never located that small belt. But it started working again-after I swapped the laser Disc , and tightened up some screws. I don't know how long it will keep working :-)

Next, I will try to resurrect a broken pioneer cld-d501 !!

I didn't do anything; it's all you ;).

Hope the player continues to operate but if it starts up again you know what to look for first.

Also, what exactly is wrong w/ the 501? This machine is a well built player and it's most common issue (assuming it was not abused) is a stretched loading belt which will have symptoms like it won't load correctly and not switch to Side B.
