I bought 2 EADs recently../a Theatervision and a T-7000….I got them for 2 songs…Thought I’d scored…the person didnt know what he had(sold as parts/repair)…no power cords../If nothing else ,parting it out would more than justify the cost…../Butt…..the guy packed them (both) Upside Down!…with predictable results…..not the first time this has happened to me…a Physics Prof packed a pristine Theta Data III the same way …only the tray broke..(its a cld503/703/4 ,mechanical wise,if anyones interested) The T-7000 is rumored to be a Phillips cdv400…..its Not…its close..no cigar….…the Theta DataII is most definitely the Phillips400…I can back this up with pics if anyone is interested…its the Pickup Assy drive mechanism thats different and the Pickup carriage is close ,but wont work..the mount to the drive is different…it looks to be an upgrade ,so it must be a newer model..CDV475?…Anyone know?..I bought this one to fix my other T7000 with a bad Pickup.
Anyway….This problem is the TheaterVision....It fired up..tray wasnt opening fully…changed the belts ,cleaned the old grease ,lubed it and it was good to go../everything (almost)works…Clamps the disc…the Pickup assy moves as you’d expect ,reads the disc LD/CD……when you push play it flashes…LD or Cd/Cdv….after a few minutes it ejects the disc….Never spins..no whirling noise..nothing…if you hit pause the light stops flashing and nothing more…Is the spindle motor toast?….anyway to test it to be sure?…..I would prefer to cannibalize the old one to fix the new one …its near pristine outside and in…..it does look to be a beast to swap the motors.

In regards to CD vs LD detection, I'm not sure how that is performed outside of Pioneer-land. I'm not 100% it is the pickup, but I have seen more dead KHS-130As than working ones. Peter posted similar experience here: https://forum.lddb.com/viewtopic.php?p=119954#p119954I'm also not sure if they can actually be repaired due to some tiny failed component in the pickup or carriage. I have not tried. You can see what can be swapped on the carriage, or maybe it can just go in. Photos might provide better insight into the differences. Need to be careful in either situation. Some have screws that should never be removed. After that you'll need to make adjustments following service manual (tilt, focus, tracking and RF). Really need an oscilloscope and GGV disc, but you might can get it "good enough" via some tedious trial and error.

The carriage is different,,,the mechanism that moves the assembly on the Phillips 400 is a long belt/drive..>while the EAD is gear drive…..and the mount to the assembly has been changed to accommodate.. I think this is probably above my skill level…too bad..its very clean unit… The Theatervision was the prize…the tray was shattered ,at first it powered up ,a little glichy ,and opened and close the broken tray…now its dead… Thanks for your help C+…ya win some …ya lose some…..my bone yard(spare parts) the Theatervision…Theta DataIII ..2 EAD T7000 and a McIntosh MLD7020……all bought for pennies of their working value……Pickup problems on all of em’..the TV is unknown…..I do have something very interesting coming…if it survives the shipping…it wont be packed upside down this time…lol….

That is because I forgot to attach it. wildwall9 wrote: Im kinda stubborn… Perfect quality for anyone attempting LD repair in 2021. wildwall9 wrote: And hints on how to get it in service mod and aligning the Pickup? If you don't have an oscilloscope, you don't need to enter test mode. Poorly written (and potentially damaging) guidelines based on CDV400 (which I know little about) if you have neither scope or test disc: Attempt playback. If it will not, adjust focus gain. Skip to last minute of the longest CLV you have. Adjust tilt until no crosstalk. Then skip to first minute and ensure no crosstalk. If still crosstalk adjust LD focus balance. Check for any skipping and adjust tracking if so. Balance > Gain Dial RF gain down until you see dropouts and then dial back up until you don't. Put in a CAV and freeze frame for a while at first minute of disc and last minute to make sure it doesn't jump. Play CD. Adjust CD focus balance until it sounds good. You really need an oscilloscope and test disc.
