Post subject:  EAD power board…UPDATE …the final

Ok..another EAD issue..its a Theater Vision ..based on a CLD99…Powers up ,then when unplugged ..its dead..this has happened 3 times…last one was 3 months between…finally finished my display unit …after repairing the mechanical parts damaged in shipping…I let it sit for 3 months until I built the display shelf unit.(see pic) ..Ive checked the ESR ,..2 caps are a bit over..say 15% …would this cause it to die?…Any Ideas on what would cause this? And finally …where is the Arc Suppressor(if they have one) on the board(s) I know from reading here ,it only affects the fuse ..butt?…In the pic ..the CLD99 board(125v 2A) is on the left..EAD on the left(240v 2a) the EAD board is missing 2 caps ,removed the large one to access the small one hidden
As always ..Any help is appreciated..

The small hidden 1uf capacitor on the left primary side is the startup capacitor for the power supply, when that goes bad the supply will not turn on. It could be going bad. The secondary sides of these boards are the same, the primary is different to accommodate 120VAC verses 240VAC. These do not have ARC suppressors so that is not the issue. In the middle of the boards the 2 each 2200uf caps are for +/-14V outputs, the 3300uf cap is for +5V and the 1000uf cap is -5V outputs

I remember reading that somewhere ,,here..about that being the “starter” ….The thing tests OK on my volt meter/ESR….Would it account for the power working and then not (after unplugging)multiple times? Im so green at this…maybe I should order some caps and and replace it and the others_one at a time or I’ll lose my place ..lol…The Arc Suppressor question was for the future…I think it was your post ,talking about it popping fuses and clipping it out would fix it ..fuses…You certainly know your stuff Bro…calling out the caps from the picture…..
I just ran the ESR meter over it again..the 1000uf cap is at .349…should be under .2…
I just noticed..I pulled two Cap charts off the net ..theyre different,,,on the ESR meter its 1.2..not 2.0 on one of the charts..the other matches the chart on the meter….just what I need ,makes my old brain hurt …
Thanks

The verdict is in…2 bads Caps for certain and I replaced the Kick Starter for GPs, besides I couldnt get a value with a ESR meter on it anyway..
1000uf 10v ..50% over…..1uf 200v ..3X+ the value and the Kick Starter Cap…1uf 100v
Thanks once again for everyones help..now after replacing most of the original EAD mech ..Ive got a taste of adjustment to do with side B flipping..after all of this ,it should be easy money../who am I kidding,.lmao…
