I replaced the belt and grip ring on this player which I recently got. Now when I play side B the laser sled comes into position and the laser lens taps the disc a few times before stopping.
It will play side B by chance every few tests, totally random.

Now if I push down a bit on the back of the assembly carriage the disc will start to spin and player will work. This trick does not work 100% of the time, maybe I am not getting the same distance of travel every time I push on it. The picture displayed by both sides of the disc looks fine. Side A plays fine.

Any help on this would be appreciated!

Thanks.

Is the top bent down a bit? Could be why your laser is hitting the disc and why creating some distance remediates the problem. I believe I've read somewhere that this could cause problems and a user had to unbend it to fix it.

Welcome to the LDDB Forums, jagerrudy!

I have forgotten if this problem is related or not, but there is a plastic component called an "M-holder" that often partially breaks, on many two-side players of that era. If you did not already do so, search in the "CLD" section here for failures like yours, and/or M-holder discussions/comments. You may find out what you need. I wish you success.

If you do find the solution to your player's failure (by any method), please return here and post an update describing what you did to fix it. Thanks!

You need to look at a service manual and re-center the side B playback.

It doesn't look like it's bent, but I will have check more closely. Thanks!

I did try to re-center the B side. It did seem to help a bit, but the disc would usually not play through the whole side if you used chapter seek. It's like you could adjust it for the beginning of the side and then it was out of adjustment later on. I lied, I did not re-center side B I used the Tan adjustment.

Hello. This model doesn't have an M holder.
