So I bought a McIntosh MLD7020 ...but without remote. So the question is as it is a re-branded Pioneer CLD-97 and the remotes look exactly the same ... are they compatible? The remote for Pioneer is like $25 .. the one for McIntosh is serious moneyz... ofc if I manage to find one in the first place.

they ought to be, since all McIntosh LDPs seem to be little more than cosmetically-modified 1990's PIONEER models...

Unless there is a specific function added to the McIntosh version (I don't think there is) then the Pioneer version will work.

Even if it's a remote from a player much older, stuff like Play/Pause/scan/step never changes as far as I can tell. The tricker ones are when you need buttons for VDNR or whatever that are unique to a particular model. The buttons for changing soundtracks changed some over time too.

They are the same remote. McIntosh just puts their label on the Pioneer remote.

thanks for the info guys.. yeah I will just buy a pioneer remote. Good option seems to be the cu-cld68 as it is 95% the same and price wise is in and around the high 20s.

The difference you would find if there is one is in the operation of the open/close(eject) and power buttons.
