Been trying to "crack" the management of pictures for the players/hardware/devices.

I couldn't find something as fancy as the way Discogs handle them.

Gave a try to PIWIGO but it centralizes pictures in an Upload folder by date instead of creating a filesystem for a web server.
Doesn't work.

So I have to start from the filesystem and I am making another round with CKFinder.
v3 is sexy (crop, rotate, edit, resize) but requires PHP8, more basic v2 (file management with thumbnails creation) will have to do for now.

So... if I:

  • Get the right folder created for Pioneer CLD-R7G that corresponds to
    #HWDB=0582
  • Drag'n'drop all the pictures provided by laserfanhld-gb
  • Choose the main picture and call it main.jpg

Attachment:
CKFinder.jpg
CKFinder.jpg [ 64.61 KiB | Viewed 3715 times ]

Then... with a little bit of PHP magic the pictures should automatically show up thumbnails on the player entry.

Attachment:
Thumbs.jpg
Thumbs.jpg [ 69.17 KiB | Viewed 3715 times ]

Attachment:

And trigger the popup gallery view (Fancybox) whenever one image is clicked on.

Attachment:
Gallery.jpg
Gallery.jpg [ 126.84 KiB | Viewed 3715 times ]

PROS:
  • I can give individual access to "gallery admins" to help me upload pics
  • No need to add pictures on the dev website and later have to upload ZIP and SQL scripts
  • The pictures are automatically resized if too big and thumbnails created on the fly

CONS:
  • The pictures are sorted by filename, I can't re-order them easily (unless I rename them all manually)
  • There is not credit to whoever provided the pictures...
  • I will need to add self-discovery code to be aware that a new (main) pic has been added to a device

It works!

First pictures added on the live/prod website:
Sanyo HVL-BM2000 (BASEBAND)
Sony HDL-5800 (HDVS)

I will need to add self-discovery code to be aware that a new (main) pic has been added to a device Done: it will help populate the main page:

Another possible next step: linking forum topics.

I've been painfully moving/renaming topics dealing with LD Players as follows for years now:

The AUDIO IN section (initially 8 entries!) became quite huge (27 and counting) when I started to discover lots of connectors I wasn't used to.

To make it a little easier to use, I created neutral headers that explain more conveniently the logic behind the lists of connectors.
Did the same for AUDIO OUT, and considering also upgrading VIDEO IN and VIDEO OUT sections.

What about the HDMI automotive connector? Just in case I want to toss my CLD-R7G and a DVDO in to the back of an Allegro (avocado bathroom paint with 'dysentery brown' velour interior). Or hook up a caravan to the back of the Austin Princess and watch a stack of discs on my holidays in Barnstable and Walton-on-the-Naze?

I don't see this one as a requirement on the critical path ;-)

Hmm...

What about if I wanted to plug my FM Towns Car Marty in to my Austin Montego and daisy chain it to a Pioneer Laseractive and a DVDO in the boot of my car so I could plays FM Towns and Laseractive games on the go? I'd want an HDMI automotive connector then!

Very crude admin draft to link hardware/device with parts (or parts with hardware/devices) is now in production.

Attachment:
admin.png
admin.png [ 20.57 KiB | Viewed 3532 times ]

First category will be "Remote Control", followed by "Manuals" (or any docs with a brand/manufacturer reference) and eventually books/catalogs/promotional material as well as "spare parts" (such as M-Holder, optical bloc, etc.), and anything else that might fit.

For now it's only text but will become a link when I finish coding the "parts" display/submit/update/etc.

Just reached 50% of the hardware devices with a photo gallery.

Will enable the collection/wishlist soon, and let the popularity/most owned players contest start!

Thought it would be faster to port the disc collections to hardware collections, but it's actually quite a lot of work.

First draft!

The Hardware summary table was a little user-unfriendly, I added a "Search for Brands..." search box to filter the rows instantly.

One more connector I never anticipated: IEEE-488 (HPIB / GPIB)

Image

Found on some old professional Phillips PAL players such as the Philips VP412.
