I noticed a major deficiency in the UHD Blu-ray category. There's no information about HDR support (like HDR10+, HDR10, Dolby Vision) on any of the players. This is one of the most important factors when buying a player. The first versions of the UBP-X700 model lacked Dolby Vision (hence the Dolby Vision logo not appearing on the boxes of the first models produced). It was added via an update. This should be mentioned in such cases. Incidentally, a trimmed-down version of the UBP-X700 with the new DTS and Dolby logos was released in 2025. If you are going to add one, remember to use the current Dolby Vision logo.

The Sony X800 player (in the USA, at least) also has a "V2" or similar version that added Dolby Vision. For some reason, it (and maybe all Sony UHD players?) must have Dolby Vision manually turned on and off to use it. If it is left "on" and a non-Dolby-Vision disc is played, I forgot what happens; maybe no HDR at all? No other brand seems to have that quirk; I wonder why Sony does?

Japanese companies have always been bad at software.
