So maybe I'm catching up (but a quick search of the forum turned up nothing); now when I go to the "LaserDisc UK Web Site/LaserDisc Archive Page" there's a very clear and obvious link back to the LDDb. http://www.laserdiscarchive.co.uk/default.htm

Now I know Julien wanted to preserve the information there; which if I understand correctly was part of the motivation to create the hardware Db here.

Does this mean Julien/LDDb stepped in directly to preserve this fantastic resource "as-is"?

The link to LDDb must be more than 15 years old.
Tried to contact the webmaster but the last message I got was around 2005 IIRC.

I tried to contact again in 2011, 2019 and 2021.

I haven't use data from the LD archive page so far (except for the player list used to build up a more complete list) but I have a full backup in case the website ever disappears.

Looks like someone is still paying to keep the domain alive:

The SSL certificate is also regenerated from Let's Encrypt each 3 months (LDDb is the same).

Thank you for such a detailed reply Julien!

Clearly it's just my bad memory for not noticing that before!

How interesting though that it appears someone is still paying to keep it up? An anonymous LD benefactor, or did this site just get caught up in several where another is the primary interest?

I'll check my backup and upload it somewhere as an alternative resource.

Got a full (unless I made a mistake!) backup from 2011 and 2017 at hand.

Trying to contact Ian again for safety.

If no answer after a while, we'll edit the backup (to remove his email, etc.) and upload the site somewhere to safekeeping.

A possible location could be: http://laserdiscarchive.co.uk.lddb.com/

I uploaded a "clean" version (without Paypal links or email addresses) at this URL.

The WebArchive can still be found here: http://web.archive.org/web/20230315004211/https://laserdiscarchive.co.uk/default.htm

No news from Ian (the webmaster) for more than 10 years now, I guess it's OK to do that?
