Now that the last Laserdisc player was produced already many years ago, wouldn't it be nice to have a complete list of all LD player models sold from 1978 until 2009?
I have nowhere seen such a complete list and try now to produce one by myself, I appreciate every help to complete this list.

Thanks to retro_games the laserdisc player model LJR I from Runco got into my list.
Thanks to lons_vex I could add the laserdisc player Acustorama CDV 496 from Grundig, which is a OEM model from Philips.
Thanks to svwees I could add 6 "CDV players". "CDV players" are players restricted to 12cm VSD, 12cm CDV, 12cm CD, and 8cm CD (=CDS). CDVs and VSDs contain a 5-6 minutes long laserdisc part with analog video and digital audio. CDVs contain additionally a 20 min CD part with audio only. CDV players are "laserdisc enhanced" CD players that cannot play the large laserdiscs, because they have got only a small CD type tray. The "exotic" Pioneer LD-V3000 that can play only 20cm laserdiscs was already in my list before.
Thanks to scytales I could add 3 LD players manufactured in the Soviet Union by Rus and Amfiton, plus 1 manufactured in Russia by Kolibri, the latter being a licensed clone of a Philips CDV 496.
Thanks to admin Julien I could add Clarion MV-7000A.

My last update was on July 15th, 2017.

Quote:
----- THE STILL INCOMPLETE LASERDISC PLAYERS AND RECORDERS LIST - currently showing 1024 devices -----
"Laserdisc" is a registered trademark of the company Pioneer, and in the year 1989 Pioneer has allowed that this name be used for all compatible laser videodiscs, i.e. compatible with the MCA and Philips optical videodisc specification. Therefore this list contains devices for NTSC Laserdiscs, PAL Laserdiscs, and MUSE Hi-Vision Laserdiscs. The one-time recordable RLV discs (NTSC, CAV format, analog sound) are compatible with normal NTSC Laserdiscs players, therefore a RLV recorder is also listed here.

The large 30cm and 20cm laserdiscs in NTSC or PAL I call just "Laserdisc" (LD) independent of whether they were called "DiscoVision", "LaserVision", "VLP", "CDV", or "Laserdisc" by the manufacturer. "LDS" = 20cm LD-Single, "CDS" = 8cm CD-Single. I use the name "CDV" only for 12cm CDV, aka "CDV-Single", and for VSD.
(system) refers to "complete" laserdisc systems that comprise at least a LD player, amps and speakers. I am sure that I have not yet marked all of them.
(autochanger) refers to a player that can hold several laserdiscs, and can be ordered to pick any one of them to play it back.
(commander) refers to a device that does not play back LDs by itself, but is used to control one or several autochanger LD player units.
(recorder) refers to a device that is used for recording a video onto a videodisc. Some recorders have built-in video processors, some use standalone processors. Only RLV recorders can produce a disc that is playable in a normal laserdisc player.
(processor) refers to a device that does not play back LDs by itself, but is required to be used with a videodisc recorder when recording.
(MUSE) refers to players that can play MUSE Hi-Vision Laserdiscs. Many of these players can play back also NTSC laserdiscs.
(CDV-player) means that it can play back only 12cm CDV, VSD, CD, and 8cm CD-Single. It cannot play back the large Laserdiscs.

However they can be written only in the Teac recorders of the LV-200 series - and unlike RLV they also can only be played back in the recorders and players of the Teac LV-200 series! NEITHER the discs NOR the players are compatible with Laserdisc.
NB: since I have not yet found a picture of a real "Color Videodisc", I am not sure whether they were labeled as such or used a different name.)

I presume you started with http://www.laserdiscarchive.co.uk as your baseline ?

Yes have seen over the years some more obscure models (mainly Karaoke related), as this web-site hasn't been updated since March 2007.

Yes I started some years ago with the list from the British http://www.laserdiscarchive.co.uk as first shot.
Since then I have added again and again missing models but still have the feeling that there are still many missing, especially Korean models.

It is a pity that this British list was abandoned before it was completed, and nobody seems to update it any more.
Many years ago I sent information about one of my laserdisc players (Denon LA-550C) I had to them, but neither did I get any answer nor did this information ever appear in the website. This website contains many nice pictures, but many models come without any information associated to them.

This is why I started to build a new and more complete list of LD players.

I don't think you need a separate catagory for the Elite stuff, nor adding "Elite" to the name of every model. The model number indicates it's Elite by being 2 digits instead of 3, just like AMG Mercedes.

You are missing the Runco LJR I, and eliminate the LJR III that didn't existed, it was only a project.
And also join the LD-S1 to the Elite ones.

Also the LD-X1 is the same as LD-S2 so it should be in the Elite as well.

How is it Elite if it doesn't say "Elite" on it? And by whatever logic explains that, why wouldn't the LD-W1 also be Elite?

I'd leave the Elite off completely, honestly. There are some pretty mediocre things with "Elite" written on them and some really good LD players that don't. It's a meaningless term that gets way too much weight, especially from noobs who just bought something mediocre.

The LD-S1 was before they started the Elite tags, it really was considered an Elite model but doesn't say Elite.

Yes, because Elite hadn't been invented yet, isn't that the reason?

Given that Elite is really nothing but a name, and the name didn't yet exist, given that the Elite logo isn't on the machine or the box...

I guess you could say it's like how Nausicaa is now considered a Ghibli movie even though Ghibli didn't exist in 1984 when it was made?

Of course the machine itself is very much elite, it's just not Elite. The CLD-97 is both elite and Elite. The CLD-95 isn't very elite at all, but it's totally Elite. The CLD-99 is...kinda elite, but %100 Elite. The DVL-90, while I've never seen one in person, is also %100 Elite, but it hardly seems elite at all...unless you consider that by then even the standard LD player was more elite than a lot of Elite decks.

Elite is Pioneer's version of THX. It's a badge that generates money. Sometimes it's worth it, sometimes it's not, usually best bought on clearance. :)

Now I'm *really* sick of the word...

Thank you very much for your comments!

About the "Elite" brand I now think it is really best to omit the word "Elite" completely - it is just that most of the two digit number models had also "Elite" written on it. In the case of the LD-S1 (I am sitting here right next to one) the nicely written front inscription is "Reference Laservision Player" which tries to say the same thing. Also I think that this "Elite" title was mainly promoted in the USA, I cannot remember that there would have been much advertising about "Elite" in Japan. In my list there were e.g. the "CLD-52" and also the "Elite CLD-52" in parallel, and long time I thought the "Elite" would be a specifically tuned-up US-version of the CLD-52, but it seems that this is not the case. So I reduced it now to just one CLD-52 model.

I have updated now my top post, there you can see the newest version of my LD player list.

In a Panasonic manual I saw that Panasonic distinguishes between e.g. a model LX-600U and LX-600CA, but to me it looks as if the only difference is that the one with the U is the model intended for the USA, and the one with CA is the model intended for Canada - I could not find any physical difference between these two models ...

The mains voltage is 120V/60Hz in both countries, and also the mains plugs are the same, so where is the difference?
Does somebody know what is the difference between these two models?

Would it be worth noting in the list for players from other manufacturers when it is a "rebadged" player?

I think it would be interesting to know, but I have a problem with the distinction between "OEM" and "rebadged" - is "rebadged" just another word for an OEM player, or is it "rebadged" only if it is 100% identical to a Pioneer player and ONLY the nameplate was exchanged?

For example I had once a Denon LA-550C, this unit was internally a Pioneer CLD-616, but on the outside there were some modifications:
1. it had different colours (black casing instead of golden)
2. it came with two nicely lacquered wooden decoration panels that you could optionally fix on the left and right side of the body
3. the shape of some buttons in the front panel was different (square versus round)
4. the manual was printed by Denon

I would call this an OEM player, not "rebadged". Or I could call it "inside a Pioneer CLD-616, minor modifications on the outside". What do you think?

To me this is an OEM. But when it's clearly the same player on the outside - like the Halcyon player was - and the Magnavox equivalents too (of the Pioneer LD-700), a "Rebadge" tag makes sense. Or maybe Rebranding.

Some are missing and good ones...

You are missing the MSB LS1, EAD T-8000, EAD TheaterVision...

@retro_games:
Thank you for the hint, I have now inserted those into my list.
However I have never seen the EAD models T-7000 and T-8000: is somewhere on their front additionally written "Theatervision", or is "Theatervision" really one specific model apart from the T-7000 and T-8000 ?

@blam1:
I am still thinking about how I can best visualize in my list models that are rebranded, and differentiate them from models that are OEM, or "clones" (do they really exist?), or are e.g. a "CLD-616 under the hood", a description that could very well be applied also to my Denon LA-550C (and is synonymous to OEM I do suppose) ... would it be fine to write "RDI Halcyon: Model 200 (= Pioneer LD-700)" for a rebranded model, and "Denon LA-550C (≈ Pioneer CLD-616)" for an OEM model?

@all:
I am editing right now my list offline with more information per player as far as I know it, but it will take another week or two until I can post it here, because I am right now very busy with other things as well. But stay tuned ...

The "more information" part should tell in which year it was released, whether the player supports NTSC or PAL or HD (or NTSC/PAL or HD/NTSC), in which market it was available (J/U/E) resp. Japan/USA/Europe, which kind of discs it can read, which output is available and which special features it has got - but I am afraid that for most players I will have to fill in blanks at first because I don't know most players ... but I will also do some research to find out.

I most cases a "rebaged" player is going to use a whole lot of stuff from Pioneer (or whatever OEM). They sometimes just want a laser or something but for the most part only inconsequential plastic stuff on the outside will change...or maybe it got dropped into a big metal case, either way, they are all rebadges.

Sometimes the original OEM will do the building even. The web of suppliers and manufactures in Japan and how they all used to rely on each other is a really interesting subject that has been gone into in some detail over at The Vintage Knob.
