Since I came across it and we have this section now, here's some scans of an article on UMD that I found:

and a full page ad for them:

If I find any others I'll share those as well.

I didn’t realize that Widescreen Review and UMD existed at the same time.

Yeach December 2005 was the issue date.

I stopped buying WSR shortly after that right before HD-DVD and blu-ray came out.

Does anyone around here ever bring up Laser Marquee? It was a cheap (free?) magazine I got from Camelot music back when they sold a lot of LD. It was thin and black and white but so where most of the movies they covered. I remember it being more hardcore than the other mags, even moreso than WR.

I read that article, borderline advertorial, IMHO, and now I want to “give it a chance” again. I’ll try to watch Hitchikers Guide tonight if I can. I have much better headphones now than I did then.

This article reminded me of the launch days of the PSP...slightly twisting the system accidentally could cause the disc to eject. The Square button would get stuck under the housing. The games take FOR EVER to load. The screen was simply the best thing I had ever seen though. Once it was cracked and you could play games off the Memory Stick loading dropped to 1/8 the time and many games that were borderline unplayable because of huuuuuuge loading times became quite fun overnight. Super Robot Wars MX, Shutokou Battle, Intial D, these probably wouldn’t get played by me if I had to spend at least twice as long to complete them because of crazy load time.
