(another reason the updates were never kept sequentially for further checking/revising/reverting was that the first version of the website only had 100MB of Database and we filled that up quickly!)
However... I just received an Email from Discogs telling me that, given all the correct updates/submits I made there, I've been granted "voting rights".
That made me rethink of notifications.
Initially I wanted to keep the emails automatically generated from LDDb at a minimum:
- Mailing-List (now defunct) had to be signed up/opted in)
- Wishlist alerts would only happen if voluntarily requested
- Participating in a forum topic discussion will not automatically subscribe you to updates
Many people, instead of clicking on "unsubcribe" just flag messages SPAM and that leads to my server being sometimes blocked from ISP believing the reports... so as few emails as possible is a safe strategy.
Yet, to get inspiration from Discogs, would it be interesting to notify when a title gets updated by a user?
A title you own or a title you are selling?
Would it be interesting to have a "voting" button to confirm that the current information is accurate?
Just throwing ideas.
