Is it possible to show what the updates are on the disc pages like discogs does??

I was looking at a disc I own and see its been updated 6 times but it doesn't say what has been done.
Thx

Sadly, the database in 2002 was not designed to pile up all deltas (for easy rollback since Discogs can be edited by anyone at anytime).

The updates get reviewed and the fields accepted as valid are merged to the main entry.
Admin updates do no update the counters (there would be too many!).

(another reason the updates were never kept sequentially for further checking/revising/reverting was that the first version of the website only had 100MB of Database and we filled that up quickly!)

However... I just received an Email from Discogs telling me that, given all the correct updates/submits I made there, I've been granted "voting rights".

That made me rethink of notifications.

Initially I wanted to keep the emails automatically generated from LDDb at a minimum:

  • Mailing-List (now defunct) had to be signed up/opted in)
  • Wishlist alerts would only happen if voluntarily requested
  • Participating in a forum topic discussion will not automatically subscribe you to updates

Many people, instead of clicking on "unsubcribe" just flag messages SPAM and that leads to my server being sometimes blocked from ISP believing the reports... so as few emails as possible is a safe strategy.

Yet, to get inspiration from Discogs, would it be interesting to notify when a title gets updated by a user?
A title you own or a title you are selling?

Would it be interesting to have a "voting" button to confirm that the current information is accurate?

Just throwing ideas.

Julien

I think this is not needed anymore. If I had the knowledge I have now on aspect ratio etc I would fix them or alert that they
need to be corrected.

But if I add a title now I know what to do more than first on this site.

Maybe other reasons this is needed?????

I do like how Discogs has "Correct" and "Complete and Correct".

There are a lot of entries here missing minor information like chapter count. Additionally, mixups with P&S vs Video vs Open Matte. If I can't discern which is which, I leave this empty.

On a side note, I'm hoping people will continue to submit missing mint marks (highlighted red in the collection).

It does seem to work!

I see a lot of updates that are only for the mint marks.
I need to finish the help section showing how to properly input them (master ID vs batch ID).

It's not as complicated as Discogs system for CD's matrix/run-out, master SID, mould SID.
Took me a while to get these right.

Yes many thanks for adding this. They give a significant insight into manufacturing and sort of function as a checksum as well.

Now if someone could make sense of the batch IDs...

I rarely agree with Rein-O, but yes it would be nice to know what was updated.

There are a lot of titles with missing or incorrect info and it would be cool to be notified if those titles were updated.

Maybe it could work sort of like a comment. Each update gets a description of the update in a comment or other filed that simply gets updated with each revision so as not to clog up the page. Doesn't even need to have dates:

Update: New cover photo added, mint marks added, AR corrected and street date added.

a week later

Update: New cover photo added, mint marks added, AR corrected, street date added, THX into added, runtime edited.

Simple.

I have a lot of mint marks to do and cover photos to take myself so I get the effort involved.

Thanks
