I would like to be able to filter by Director. I realise that this would be an enormous amount of work in terms of verifying updates.

Huge! It's called IMDb :P

However, if you can find the IMDB # for all titles from the IMDB director page, then you can search on IMDB number and several more with +.

You can find example on the old history page for update 2003-11-22.
