Post subject: Connection between Top 100 & My Collection?

Maybe I'm missing something (or maybe this is harder to do than I think it should be!) but when I am viewing my collection, I see the number of my titles that are in the Top 100 lists. Yet if I click on the list link, it just takes me to the overall list, with no visible clue as to which title(s) in my collection are on that list.

So I'm wondering if there's any way to know which specific titles in my collection are on the Top 100 list, rather than just a number (how many). My aim is mostly just to know which titles I have are in demand, since (unfortunately) I will be needing to sell off the collection & would like to start with those in most demand.

Is there some way to do this that I'm just totally missing? And if there isn't a way to do this, wouldn't it be useful to add such a feature?

Thanks.

Really the top 100 LDs in collections is not what you are after if you are thinking of using it to determine the value of titles as all it shows is the most popular titles.
Titles that are in many collections are generally worthless.

What you probably want to look at is.....

Top 100 wishlist:
http://www.lddb.com/top100.php?id=4

Top 100 best bids:
http://www.lddb.com/top100.php?id=13

These two lists are very different and show the titles people really want and a rough guide of how much they would be prepared to pay for them.

As you will see there is a big difference in the titles people want versus the titles they already have in their collections.
Music titles are much more frequently featured in wishlist and/or best bid offers whereas blockbuster movies are not that sought after unless they are very late releases where there were far fewer pressings made.

Also a word of warning - take some of those best bids with a pince of salt - someone offering $66 for Mission: Impossible 2 (2000) [PILF-2865] has no chance of ever scoring that title. For that particular title multiply that best offer by about 10 and you will get the right figure for a mint copy!

Well, most of the listings have controls for which "show in my collection" is one option, but for some reason Julien doesn't seem to have coded it into the "pre-defined lists" pages.

Hello!

There was a problem with the calculation of the "titles in the Top 100 XXX" number: it was based on the time where only LD was available as a format. Here I was summing up all collection in a wrong way and my own list was showing:

68 title(s) of the Top 100 Collection
90 title(s) of the Top 100 Wishlist

I fixed it to filter only LD on that specific list and now it shows the correct numbers:

9 title(s) of the Top 100 Collection
29 title(s) of the Top 100 Wishlist

On these 2 "Top 100" lists, the [+] will show which title is part of your collection/wishlist.

Regards,
Julien

The top 100 aren't worth anything because everyone already has them. It doesn't indicate demand, it indicates demand that has already been satisfied. LDs like Fantasia CAV or Hunt for Red October were very popular in the day, which is why they made so many. Everyone who had an LD player had these titles. Now that %99 of all LD owners have moved on there is a huge surplus of this stuff.

The LD is a bizarrely contorted version of its former self. The stuff that's valuable is either not available on newer formats, or has features not available on newer formats, or its really late stuff. Almost nothing that was popular originally is worth more than $5, maybe $1. If you want maximum profit, I'm sad to say you are going to have to do some research. If your collection is like most people's though its probably not worth the cost to ship it.

Actually, that was the one I was interested in, but I noticed that there was nothing in either Top 100 list that told me which ones were in my collection, even though on the collection page, it tells me how many of mine are in the Top 100 Wishlist (and Collections).

Sorry if I was unclear. I was just looking for an easy way to match up what I have to the wishlist, because it makes sense to try to sell those first (since someone wants them.)

BTW, books work the same way -- there are always a hundred people selling the most popular book for a penny, because there just are so many copies out there.

Thanks.
With only 60-80 laserdiscs total, I can handle matching them up ... perhaps I was just being a bit lazy!

Thank you, Julien! I see it now.

Also thanks, in a very general sense, for the site overall.

Thanks; got it now from Julien's post. Just a dizzying array of symbols here!
