I wouldn't mind Betamax being able to be added as an "own it on..." type selection, but not as a full info page with pictures and such like LaserDisc - its just too much info to deal with.
Betamax isn't an "odd" format - its pretty much like VHS but did everything first except have an extended recording time when launched. Everything else, Hi-Fi stereo, High-band video, visual search, linear stereo (in Japan only), self-contained one piece camcorder, automated tape changers, etc... Beta originated and VHS followed. VHS won the format war because of RCA, who used a massive advertising campaign to sell their Matsushita-made VHS units for $1000 and had Matsushita add a 4-hour recording speed to those first decks (that was never part of JVC's official VHS specs, only SP and SLP were). RCA's ad campaign was looked upon with awe in the industry because RCA just imported the units and sold them - they never had excess inventory. And their first ad was brilliant in its simplicity:
"4 hours, $1000, SelectaVision"
