Is it possible to access PMs without using the forum?

I have PMed a few people but I don't think they use the forum so they wouldn't notice them. Is there a way to have some notification or a clone of the PM to be used on the account page with collection and wishlist so that people can communicate without using the forum since a lot of people just use it to catalog and nothing else.

I hope this makes sense if not I can try better at explaining it.

Each PM will trigger a notification email with a direct link, so technically they know there's something waiting in the PM box.

The PMs are 100% provided by the forum, they are not a separate feature... I can't un-bundle them
