With the search option (advanced) I am missing one category in the choice. The great genre of desaster films. In the aera of LDs there have been released a lot of desaster films in great quality, but all of them are in different genres. For example "The Towering Inferno" as "Action", "Airport" also as "Action", "The Swarm" as "Horror" or "Meteor" as "Sci-Fi". I don't agree this way, and I believe those movies would also deserve their own category. At least a question, wouldn't this be possible?

Well, even IMDb doesn't sub-categorize genres like this:

Airport - Drama/Thriller
The Towering Inferno - Action/Thriller
The Swarm - Horror
Meteor - Action/Sci-Fi

If we go there, then Sci-Fi should have a "Space Opera", "Hard Science", "Political Fiction", etc.
It's kind of endless.

I'd rather have IMDb keep track of this and focus on the LD specificies :-)

I stick to the US/Europe convention for these:

Cartoons: usually short, mostly US, animated shorts (Tom & Jerry, Disney shorts, etc.)
Anime: Japanese animation (TV series, OAV, etc.)
Animation: Long featured films, most Disney, East Europe animated works, etc.
