Hey Julien,
This seems to be a really cool new feature you have added. This is my first attempt at giving it a try. I hope all goes well on this "trial run". I wanted to make you (and everyone else, for that matter) aware that there is still a problem in the system related to the use of the apostrophe. We have discussed it before, and I thought it was corrected. I have not noticed it recently in my updates and new title submissions. Unfortunately, it has popped up again in a different area. Not long ago, I decided to create an "About Me" page. I had intended to do this long ago, but only recently took the time to do it. On the first couple of tries, I made the mistake of including the dreaded apostrophe in the text. I was confronted with an error message, and had to go back to square one. On the third attempt, I think, I was able to successfully create the "About Me" page. The only way I was able to do it was to rephrase my wording to avoid the need for apostrophes, and to simply omit them on purpose in a few words. That was how I "got around" the problem. A very annoying "bug" indeed, and certainly one that is worth looking into more closely. I have no idea if anyone else has experienced this, or if it has materialized anywhere else on the site.
Thanks,
David

PHP 5.3.x did create problems with quotes and apostrophes. I thought I fixed them all but I must have missed at least one...!

On my list of things to fix ASAP now.

Been trying to create/update/delete/create/update an About Me page with all sorts of combinaisons of " (double quotes) and ' (simple quote) but everything works as expected.

I made a few tests here:

Could you give me a specific example (only for About Me)?

Julien

I finally decided to look more into the reasons why updates/submits with quotes and double-quotes would create problems.

It was around addslashes() and htmlentities() basically. Now I should be able to perform normal operations without adding/losing quotes around.

Tell me if things got fixed or not!

Just tried to add the dreaded apostrophe and still came up with an "error" message.
Sorry to be the bearer of grim news !!!
Will stand by and give it a go down the road a bit....
Thanks

Sorry about that.....

Indeed:

1064: You have an error in your SQL syntax; check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near

The Preview works fine... I'll check what's wrong with the update of the dabatase. Maybe forgetting to addslashes()

I think I found the problem. Could you try again and confirm?

Hi, Julien,
I just tried this on the "About Me" screen, and it appears that you have indeed corrected the problem there. I was able to successfully add apostrophes where they were needed on my About Me page, and I DID NOT receive an error message! :D I had previously been afraid to try to add the apostrophes for fear that the dreaded message would appear, and I would be forced to go back to square one and retype the entire text. I believe that the problem on that screen is now fixed! I should, however, mention that the problem may still be resident in the update screen for existing titles. :wtf: There are several pending updates I have submitted which are titles with apostrophes in them. At the time I submitted these, a backslash (\) was inexplicably added, although I didn't type one. It just appeared before the apostrophe after I submitted the update. Some examples of this are Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court, Day That Doesn't Exist, and Ulzana's Raid. I should point out that all of these are updates I submitted some time ago which just haven't been validated yet. (None of them are of recent vintage.) I'm not sure if they just date back to a time before the problem was corrected, or if they are an ill omen that there is still a problem lurking somewhere in the update section. I hope that the latter is not the case. I just thought this was worth mentioning.

Thanks,
David
