I just noticed that the "What have you been watching?" topic seems to have lost it's posts. It has over 100,000 views and only 49 posts which is a very unusual ratio. I can also swear that I had been posting to that topic for years and it currently lists the first post as December of 2017. Can somebody confirm that I am not going crazy?

I hope LDDB topics are not being pruned. I sometimes like going back and looking at older posts.

Sadly I think they have been for quite some time.
I understand topics that have little to no interest in the LD or film area but who knows.

I think Julien mentioned this a while ago but apologies if I am mistaken.

Quite a few topics have been culled somewhat & was it perhaps a space thing?

Pretty sure it was mentioned in the past.

Cheers

I don’t see any reason for that. I go to forums that are way more popular than this one that I have been going for sometimes 20 years almost and as far as I can tell they never prune anything.

That thread in particular was one of the richest here. It had a lot of crap but also a ton of interesting personal comments on specific titles that will be missed and I’m sure Disclord must have posted in it at least once and nothing he wrote here should ever be deleted.

I don't see how space would be an issue. I run a forum with the same software that runs lddb (phpbb). It has about 5000 posts and the database size is only about 20 mb, and that includes the search index. Text posts take up almost no space.

I really am not sure if it was a "space" thing, I do (I think?!?) recall it being mentioned a while ago but again I may be mistaken though as to the reason for any thinning.

Again pretty sure it was commented on by Julien somewhere on here at sometime but if I am perhaps a bit muddled please excuse me.

Regards to all.

As I understand it the thread got so long Julien decided to split it by year.

I think the idea was for 2017 posts to look for "What have you been watching? (2017)" etc.

So 2017 posts are here: What have you been watching? (2017)

and 2016 here: What have you been watching? (2016)

and so on......

But these seem really hard to search for. Couldn't find 2017 at all on the exact subject title as a search term but when I substituted 2015 instead of 2017 then got a 2017 result near the top of the list???? Go figure. I think that needs to be improved or just leave it as one big long thread??

Now here's 2015 What have you been watching? (2015)

and 2014: What have you been watching? (2014)

Found those by scrolling through the topic list [Board index » Laserdisc (movies, music, documentaries, anything) » General discussions - Movies] near the end of each year........ Actually easier than trying to search using the site search function or google.

lol and now I just stumbled into Julien's original post about it!

The 2 biggest threads were split per year

Hmm. I have to say that I prefer to have it all in one topic. It's pretty difficult to find the previous year's threads as clearly illustrated in the comments of this topic. Also, I bet there are plenty of responses in January to posts made in December. I don't think that breaking the flow of conversation is good. Makes me less likely to post as now I know that come January, the topic will be locked and buried. Just my two cents worth.

Don't worry I don't break the topic until several weeks into the year :-)
